This is more or less an "emergency" thread. My sister has a [god knows which model] 01 focus. She's currently stranded in the middle of nowhere with engine problems I've experienced before.
While driving in the car, the high end of the (nonexistent) tachometer begins to experience what feels like a mini fuel cut. This started in 3rd gear while passing people, and spreads up and down until the car is barely drivable. The harder you push the throttle, the worse this cut gets.
I assumed a few things (and I was unable to get under the hood, unfortunately). The eventual stall feels like an air-related stall. It's not a slamming shut down, but more of a putter-out. It stalls and you don't even know it until you push the accelerator. However, the cut makes me think it's fuel related. This, of course, confuses me and my car logic.
So, without having been under the hood, my clueless sister is trapped 300 miles away with a POS dead car. She might be able to drive at about 30mph.
Of course, when I experienced this, after the stall, the car was miraculously better. Perhaps it's the ECU getting confused and giving the wrong A/F mixture. I have no idea.
But what do you guys think? Think I should send her under the hood to see if the air filter is jammed in the intake pipe? Anything else you guys can think of?
No, she's not within reach of a ford dealership.
