oil separator replacment

I have a 1999 Porsche 996 Tiptronic that has developed a nasty oil leak in conjunction with the check engine light coming on and staying on.
The car has just 27,300 miles on it. The dealer informed me that the oil separator needs to be replaced. He also noted that the engine needs to be removed to replace the oil separator. Can any one give me the details and or a WEBB site that can give me the technical details on the procedure to replace the oil separator, as the dealer wants over $2600.00 to replace this $150.00 part!!!


It seems odd that a car with less than 28,000 miles should have a part like this go bad.

I have a 99 with 32k. I did not have an oilleak but the check engine light came on. A new oil separator cost me $950 in California. The engine did not have to be removed. You are being overcharged or something else is wrong.

on the tiptronic cars the engine has to be removed. there is no way around it. manual tranny's are alittle easier as you can remove the oil seperator by removing the left portion of the intake manifold to get it out. the tiptronic vehicles the tranny is so big there is no way to get it out.

I have a 1999 carrera cabriolet with 33k miles on it. I've developed an oil sippage into my resorvior tank, the fluid is thick and resembles a milk shake (brown). Has anyone had this problem, also, since I'm trying everthing and anything to avoid buying a new engine, could you give me the part number to the oil separator. Thanks
