Pulley Questions

I'm looking at the Unorthodox Pulley Ultra SS set(Crank, PS, WP, Alternator). Now my question is, do I really need the extra 3 accessory pulley's? Will there be any performance diff or are they just there to look spiffy?

I also read in another post that Unorthodox pulleys are troublesome with 240sx's and that person recommended the ASP pulley's. It was an old post, so I'm not sure if he's referring to the Ultra SS's? Any recommendations?

Any help would be appreciated.

and i think mynismo installed em and noticed a nice difference in engine response. he'll post here soon when he sees this :)

i just put a ur pulley on, works real good. seems to rev a lil more.

you need the 3 extra belts because the pulley is smaller, and it changes the size of the belts. also you want to replace the belts because they have probably been on since the car was made and are worn out, and it's time to replace them. will save you a lot of work if your power steering belt breaks, then you'll have to take off the two other belts too... its a mess.

the belts are under $15/ea. i don't know anything about asp, but i know ur is a good name.

it squeaks a lil, but who cares when you have an injen intake and hugeass loud exhaust...

the squeeking probrably happend becuase the crank pulley isn't in all the way. so its rubbing alittle. it shouldn't squeek at all when your done.

really. i'll have procare take a look at it. they should fix it because it is pretty annoying

I was asking about the actual pulleys, not the belts. UR offers accessory pulleys and I was wondering if it's worth the extra $200. Take a look at the package here:

Didn't know if I needed em, or if having them made a diff or not. I was thinking I could put the extra $ towards an intake and get better overall results.

I was planning on switching out the belts anyways because mines starting to squeek now :biggrin:

i couldn't get them otherwise i would have. i have the "e" not "de"


if i were you i'd go electrical fan, pulley and intake. get a cheap mandrel bent exhaust

You should gain response along with 2-3 whp with the pulley.

General rule is 1 hp per 2 lbs removed from the crank.

What exactly are the benefits of an electrical fan? Any power increase? Sorry if this is a newb question just haven't come across that b4.

Power gain is pretty minimal, it's more of a response thing. By moving to the twin electrical fan you are taking out the mechanical one and wiring in the electrics. While this may seem like a gain because your removing the mechanical fan, you do lose some gain due to the electric draw now on the alternator.

not in my case. this is the BEST POWER UPGRADE you can prolly do, all for around $60 for an e-fan.

noticed a huge power increase. no stress on the water pump pulley anymore with the mechanical fan.

I've ran with and without my mech. fan and quite honestly I could tell no difference in percievable power. I did however enjoy the new found revability of the motor. It seemed to want to get up and go.

I'm assuming Flex-A-Lite is a good brand..do u know what size I need for my '97 and where I can pick one up for a good price?:confused:

easy rev means it will go faster :tongue:

just about anything will work, i used a 12" i think, you can fit dual 12"s in there with a lil work, i know mike did with his gold 240. just make sure you get a pull fan, not a push. if you get a push you will have to mount the fan on the outside of the radiator and push it in on the engine. its a lot better having a fan on the inside.

The difference between the ASP and UR pulley is the ASP doesn't underdrive the AC (if that matters to you).

i knew there was a reason i paid another $100 for the ur pulley.. lol

Have you had any problems with undriving your AC? I'm in FL and it's to damn hot out to have shitty ac :bloated:

im not really sure. i never use the a/c in cleveland. it seemed a little weaker after the pulley..... i dunno i always drive around with windows and top open.
