Boost on a T-25 turbo

I was wondering how much boost would be safe to run on the stock T-25 turbo for a 1995 talon Tsi. Also i was thinking about buying this Talon http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/vdetail.jtmpl?car_id=134454416&dealer_id=1073897&car_year=1995&make=EAGLE&distance=100&max_price=5000&model=TALON&advcd_on=n&end_year=2004&min_price=&certified=n&address=22408&search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=1983&color=&cardist=55

What do you guys think of it?

Pulled timing is the least of his worries. Constant boosting at 17 psi ( especially up around redline , do you any idea how much CFM that is? :bloated: ) will render the T25 a smoking pile of melted metal in short order. 16 psi is plenty , and I'd only do that on a new turbo. Ive seen spikes to 18+ psi , but over a 1000 rpm range , and a second or 2 , is not dangerous. Boosting 18+ from 2500rpm to 7000 rpm IS....... I'd at least upgrade to a 1st gen 14B or a small 16G , the 14B will support about 320 Hp (max) and 16G about 375 or so.

I ran some of my best T25 times at 20-22 psi. The good thing about the T25 is no matter where you set boost, it always falls to 15 psi by 5500-6000 rpm  (as a side note, I found that by shifting sooner, at 6k rpm (7 in first) I took a half second off my ET) If you are on regular gas, I found that anything over 16 psi was slower. Just because it was too inefficient above that. Also, the T25 has to spin very fdast to make even 16 psi, so its life is shortened slightly. I'm assuming thats what rockin is refering to. 14b is a great upgrade, and its acutally good for over 350 to the wheels. Not bad. But the average guy like me did mid 12s to high 12s on a "normally" modded car. Leons car is sick, but it did 11.8 on a 14b. They are only about 100 bucks used, and the install kit can be pieced together for 125-200 bucks dpending on how much of it you want to do yourself. Going off on a tangent, but this is something to start thining about if you are going to try to max out the T25...

I've seen a couple of T25 turbo's grenade at 19 psi at redline on a 2G. Altitude and temperature may have something to do with that , they seem to spike higher for longer when its below 60 degrees . I'd have to say its possible to get a T25 to boost that constantly , but you don't want to for sure. Ive always been told and read in various DSM archives that 16 psi is a safe bet for both turbo life and efficiency.

Yup I found that to be pretty accurate. I have never blown up any of my T25s no matter how hard I pushed them. I suppose I was lucky. The last 14b I ran (borrowed) didnt like my abuse though. I had the boost controller set to higher than the turbo could make. So basically the WG never opened, and the turbo ran at terminal velocity all night  On the last run the turbine came out hte ehxuast. The track official haned it to me, on something it wouldnt burn through  I never did find the shaft. LOL:lol:

It may just be something about this altitude. The local DSM club guys seem to go thru a lot of T25's. I see it on the lists all the time. The general upgrade is a 16G. I never blew a 14B either , even running it at 21 psi. I guess we've all seen different things happen..............

I dont see why everyone is all over the 16g on a 2g eclipse. I personaly want to go with the T28 . T28 is a direct bolton , while the 16g needs a jpipe and etc.

The only issue I have with the t28 is I have yet to see one go fast  One guy in my area finally started to get some decent flow numbers out of it at high boost, but it doesnt compare to a 16g. Close though. So if saving some hassle makes it worth a few lbs/min less, go for it. Try to go with one that is more likely to be worth while, like FPs big28 etc. Not one of these half assed killer or sleeper turbos, or whatever the hell they are naming them these days. On a related note, anyone ever see RREs turbo name generator? That thing is hillarious.., I Wodner if its still on thier site...

so how much hassle does it really take tho for a 16g install , like i know you need an adapter , and a jPipe . is that it? And that runs a good ~300 for those parts + the 600 dollar turbo . is it worth it?

You can easily use RREs hacker tweaker kit for 199. I use it on all the installs I do. If you are crafty (read: cheap) it can be pieced together for as little as 40-50 bucks. See tooners or talk for pics and a thread about it. I grabbed that 199 kit, and a 125 dollar 120k mile 14b. I ran mid 12s at 110 mph on it for an additional 30k miles. Bang for the buck thats hard to beat. I went to a 16g and only went 2 tenths faster, and 1 mph. Later after the car was more modded and I borrowed a 16g for a couple weeks I hit 12.0 on it at 114-115. Luckily I borrowed it, thats not much of an improvement for what some people pay for a 16g. And it took a good bit of money in mods to do that. 14b and Big28 both have bests of 11.8. Big and small 16g both have bests of 11.5. Just for another comparison.

I think its also important to note that SBR is selling 16gs for 480 new. Thats about as good as it gets. Bigs are 580, and EVOIII turbos are a bit more but I fogert the price.

I forgot the whole point of this thread by now, so thats all for now...

doesnt the t28 killer turbo have a big 16g compressor on it. if it does wouldnt that make it more efficient than the FP Big t28.
Just wondering

i suggest just save the extra cash and get yourself the 20g turbo. it gives at 4400 which isnt bad and almost unoticeable in comparison to the t25 stock turbo wich gives at about 3300 on a stock used gst or gsx

what do you mean by gives at 4400, how much would it cost to install a 20g on a 95 GS-t
