I'll move this to the 88-91 civic/crx forum... You're much more likely to get a quick response in that forum anyways.

How old is your radiator cap?

...thermostat?
take it out..drop it in a pot of boiling water and see if it opens...

make sure you refill the coolant and bleed the system of air.

Replace the thermostat and gasket, use new coolant and bleed the system when your done that should fix it,,, however if it got to hot you might have blown the head gasket which will require rebuilding the motor.....

How exactly do you bleed the cooling system?

On the top radiator hose where it hooks to the head the will be a 12 mm bleed screw... while filling the radiator with coolant before the car is running open that bleed screw... that will allow the sir out of the top of the system...when coolant starts to come out close it off... that should take care of most of the air in the system....

follow the upper radiator hos to where it connects to the engine and on that you see a bleeder valve. open valve and fill radiator with coolant. the valve will bubble out coolant, wait til its a steady flow and close it.
