Too bad it's not a Honda!
At a family reunion this weekend, I was talking to my cousin from San Bernardino, CA. He got a great deal on a hot-rodded engine for his bug. He paid $800, did some maintenance, and dropped it in.
He's running mid 13s, and hopes to hit high 12s in a couple of weeks.
That really deflated my Honda ego, when I found out how terribly expensive it is for us to try to compete at drag racing.
What's it cost to get a 4g into the 13s? Three or four grand?
He also complained about the guys with Hondas in his area, although he did say, "Yeah, these guys have stickers all over their windows, and body kits and loud exhausts, but no mods, and every one of 'em shouts a bunch of shit at me when I drive by..."
I wouldn't talk ANY shit to a guy who can do a 13 second 1/4 mile...even if its a (gag) AMC!
Plus, I've been thinking about going LSVTEC in the Integra...and he said he had a buddy that had it, and it was fun, but not incredible. Dang.
Nice to meet an enthusiast taking a different path.

Boosted D16A in a TOTALLY stripped down hatch should run 13s with some slicks.
Hondas are not cheap if you want it to be fast, thats for damn sure.

I know that if you just want to go draggin', there are cheaper ways to do it. My cousin told me he drove that same bug over 100MPH one time, and just about shit his pants. He let off the gas and his car jumped over one lane.
A bug will never have the tranquility Hondas have at high speed.

PS-When I mentioned the AMC, I meant that any car that can do 13s will get my respect, even if it's a car I don't personally like...AMC products for example. I had to drive my aunt's AMC station wagon for a week, and it left permanent scars on my ego.

fuel pump that flows more fuel, and drag radials....you could even score some slicks, with the extra fuel you could run the nitrous safetly and with that traction and the lightness of the car you would deff be somewhere in the 13's if you could drive

Well, think about this, how long has the bug been made? 40years? more? They've had a whole lot more time to make aftermarket stuff than our cars. Plus think about this, for $10,000 you can make a CRX run 11's, including the price of the car. compare that to any new car.

My step-dad is a bug mechanic at heart. He used to build/run 50's & 60's Bugs all the time. He had over 20 in his yard once, but all his kids are gone and shit so he only has a few shells left. I bet he could still build a complete car with all the parts...
He told me he had one running 14's or something once..his fuel 'cell' was a plastic insecticide sprayer...no need for fuel pump (save weight) and he ran with 1-gallon of fuel and pumped it to like 80psi, and by the end of the 1320 it was down to about 45psi - lol - he always comes up with wacky-ass ideas like that!! - he said he also went under the car one day with a hacksaw to saw off the ends of all the bolts, and came out with a bucket with about 2 pounds worth of threads...again for weight savings - lol
Those air-cooled flat-4 engines are simple and easy to work on and soup up. ;):bigthumb:

Hey, Melt!
I'm working on the Integra this weekend, going to do some straightening and clean-up. I'll post a picture when I'm driving it. Right now, it still looks like hell.

this is precisely why i have a bug sitting in the garage next to my 88 hatch, of course, i promised myself not to touch it until my hatch is finished. cept mine isnt gonna be strictly a drag car, its gonna be a baja bug
