crossthreading

ok when i was bolting the engine up to the stand, i aparently crossthreaded one of the holes where the tranny would bolt up to the block. i'm putting it all together now so i'm wondering should i go without that one bolt and make sure the rest are torqued down or use it for now? also, how do i fix this?

take it to some one who has a tap... they can maybe straighten out the threads for you if it isn't too bad...

it should be easy to tap it while its on the stand...just go ahead and take care of it.... better to take a lil time now then alot of time later..

Load that sucker up and take it to a machine shop. It's already out of the car, and they can fix the damage in about 30 seconds.
Unless you have a tap, in which case you can spend five minutes of your own time.
You'll have to get the bolt out though, to get it off of the stand and into your trunk or the back of a pickup. If you use a big breaker bar or a big ratchet with a cheater, you can manage to break of the head of the bolt, or it'll come out with a big wad of aluminum stuck in the threads...either way, they'll fix that at the machine shop. You've got nothing to lose, at this point.
Definitely take care of it before you put it back in your ride. If you just leave it out, there'll be vibrations, and the other bolts will get loose, and it'll become a headache that won't go away.
I bet the machine shop will charge you 10 bucks and send you on your way.

PS-Hmm...sounds like you've already got the bolt out. Tap that sucker!

well glad i didn't have this in the car yet (i had alot of difficulty dropping it back into my engine bay for some reason, guess i just need someone to help meiwth it)... now will i have to take the bell housing back off or can i do it with it on?

I don't get it. Is it bolted to an engine stand, or is it bolted to the transmission already?
Is the bolt still in there? Have you taken the crossthreaded bolt out yet? You've lost me.

yea this is all backwards, if the bolt is fully out then just run a tap in there to try and save the threads, if not a machine shop is the way to go.

ok lemme try this again. when i was putting the engine onto the stand, i must have messed up the threads and just didn't realize it at first. i took it back off and attached it to the hoist and put on the bell housing and realized when i tried to put the bolt in that it was crossthreaded. so i removed the bolt and attached the rest of them. so right now i have the engine side bolt, and 3 out of hte 4 tranny bolts holding it on. the one that is messed up is the top front bolt. can i tap it while the bell housing is still on and the engine is held up by the hoist? or can i even do it when the engine is in the car? i just got to get this hoist back ASAP

drill it out and tap it.

its a d16a6... and sicne i have yet to get much input on if i can do ith with the bell housing on or in the car, i'm just gonna try it, b/c i need this back in.
