musky smell from vents

Hey people,

Driving in my car lately i noticed a musky smell. So I cleaned it out, and still the smell was there. i noticed that the smell came from the air vents, and really starts to smell bad when the fan is turned to a higher speed. My friend says that it is probably condensation from the air conditioning, and the funny thing is that whwn I have the A/C on I don't notice the smell, but when I put the regular vents on in the morning it stinks. anybody have a clue what the hell it could be? What are some suggestions to get rid of it?

so how do I get rid of it??? Is it because of the condensation from the cold A/C air??

Its mold and mildew!!!! When you are driving home for the last time! At least 2 miles before you get home shut the AC off and let the fan run to push all the condensation out of the AC case!!

When you shut your car off with the AC on or just turned off the water is lying in the case and overnight mold and mildew is formed. You need to get the water out to stop the mold from growing.

So what if you've been shutting the the car off with the A/C on for the past 8 years. If I start doing the 'shut-off A/C a couple miles before shutdown', will it flush the mold and crap out over time, instead of building up?

No it won't get rid of the mold already there but it will prevent it from coming back! Go to the store get a cleaner that kills mold and mildew spray it in your fresh air intake near your wiper blades. Run the car with AC on spray it in shut the car off and let it sit for an hour or more.
