how to rev to 9k ?

hello guys

i own a honda civic coupe 1999 (b16A). ive just puchased type r cams and value spring as well as the throttle body.

i want the thing to rev pass 9k cos i just love the way these things scream.

dont i have to change the ecu to get up to 9k??

There is no point in doing so as your cars power band drops off well before 9k RPM, revving that high will probably slow you down.

If you are really determined to do so here are my reccomendations:
1) Really stiff valve springs, so your valves don't float at high RPM
2) Stronger con rods, the tensile forces acting on the connecting rods at high RPM are incredible, and can quickly fatigue stock ones.
3) Reduce your engines rotational mass, any engine part that is part of the rotation assembly and is lighter than stock, put it in. A piston may not seem very heavy while its still, but at 9 k, they get REAL heavy...Forged pistons are ideal for high RPM since they are generally lighter than stock, at high RPM they don't put as much tensile stress on your con rods or as much load on your bearings.
4) Make sure your rod bearings are in tip top shape, at high RPM, loads on the bearings can reach, and exceed, 4000 pounds...that is like a Cadillac sitting on your rod bearings, ouch.
5) While you are getting all this stuff put in, get your engine fully balanced and blueprinted, this way stress is minimised.
6) You will need to either get your ECU reprogrammed or get an aftermarket chip, as most modern engines have RPM limiters.

Basically make everything that is stressed by inertia, stronger and lighter. You might be able to get away without doing some of this stuff, but then again, you might not... how much do you value your engine?

:werd: but if you just want to have it go past 9k for braggin sake (can't denie that an 11k redline is sexy) all you really need is a ECU or chip you won't make power up there but you can go up there if you want. Also if you do rev it that high it'll beat your motor like a bitch

Either get a REAL JDM Type-R motor, or swap out for an S2000 motor.

i had a friend who took his stock ecu to a shop and the edit it to 99999 red line and 999 mph fuel cut off ... so its like you realy dont have them at all.. but if i remember it cost him a pretty penny to do this..

also some chips wont have red lines and better fuel curves... it helps out alot

S2000 motor is a good idea, probably the cheapest way you will find. Plus it has useable power up there.

Keep in mind you can't do that to an OBDII ECU as they are near impossible to tweak, so your only alternative is converting to OBDI. Word on the street is that the p28 5th gen Si hatchback ECU isn't speed governed... Still has a rev limiter to protect the motor, but no speed governer is something to think about... ;)
