putting her down.

Today, I learned my dog has cancer. She's had it for awhile, and it's eating at her hips, muscle tissue, bladder, and most of her internals. The doctor and my father decided the best thing to do would be to put her down. He said that no surgery would help her, because the cancer has gone on so long.

Life is really fucked sometimes. My dog was the most selfless dog I have ever known. She walked my brother and me to the busstop when we were little kids, and met us at my busstop when the bus dropped us off. She's fought off 2 rotweilers and a black lab that were after us. She's protected the cats we have had around our property. She's done all this and more, and All the while I would take her for granted. I feel selfish for it.

So I'm just going to ask all of you to take some time out of your busy schedule, and go pet your dog for like 3 mins.

Thanks. :frown:

We often take the most important things for granted until we lose them, it is not your fault.

I lost my dog 3 months ago, sad thing is he was at my Dad's place and I hadn't seen him in nearly 2 years, now all I have is a photo my Dad took of him on Christmas day for me.

Your dog will be better off in the end as she won't be suffering, at least you're remembering everything she has done for you, that shows how much you appreciate it.

Prelewd-you did the right thing. To let your dog suffer would be inhumane.

It’s a tough decision but the right one to make. Sometimes we take our pets for granted and its to bad because they (especially the dogs) don't take us that way.

:frown: I'm sorry to hear that Lewd. I know its tough but just remember all of those good times. Life is fucked up. My mom just called me about 5 minutes ago and told me her first cousin died this morning. He didn't wake up and there was no sign that he would die b/c he wasn't sick. He leaves behind a 13 year old and a 3 year old. I'll say it again life is fucked up I almost have no emotion when it comes to death now b/c i've been to more funerals than anyone should ever have to and I feel sad but just don't cry just get grumpy. Sorry i changed the subject but this news just kinda brings me down b/c he was such a great guy and loved his kids more than life itself. And I feel so bad for the 3 year old b/c he will hardly have any memory of his dad and that is really sad to me. Back to your dog, I hope things get better for you and I'm sure they will, and while I don't have a dog when I see my friends dogs and uncles dog i'll take my time to pay attention to them.

Yea, sorry to hear about your mom's cousin. Did they ever find out what he died of?

Thanks everyone, for the AF therapy session. Seriously. It's lonely around here now.. I drive up my driveway and my dog was ALWAYS there to greet me. The yard seems so lifeless now.

Also man, I hear you about having little emotion over death. It's a fact of life I guess.

i had a dog once that protected me when i was younger....unfortunatly my step dad kicked him out of the house when the dog snapped at him for hitting him.....i felt bad for like 2 years not being able to love another animal because i just cared for the dog so much....but in the end everything withers and dies...appreciate the time you had with him/her and just remember the love you gave to your pet will go on forever with the next pet you get:bigthumb:

I have been faced with this recently as my dogs eyes had a real nasty tear duct infection which caused them to be a open sore, 3 times to the vet and now he is actually starting to pull through and it's slowly going away. But the second time there he started getting a little better but he scratched and picked at them and I most certainly thought he was gonna have to be put to sleep. Not a pleasant thing to think of.:frown:

:iagree:

I love dogs, I would have done the same thing. Sure its hard but its for the best, you can find a new dog...sure your old pal may never be replaced but think about how much better she is now that she is not suffering. good luck

Thanks fellas.. we had her cremated and got her 'cremains' back today. Still undecided of what to do with them though. Any ideas?

I don't think we'll be getting a new dog soon, but you never know.

Well, where did you and your dog go to play? A significant park or beach? Sorry about your loss.

No, we have five acres of land to play on.. No parks necessary. I think we might take her out and bury her next to where we buried our old cats.
