Summernats?

If you've used AF for long enough, you get tired of seeing race cars and hot rods and generally things that are more or less driven in one way or another, but what about show cars? any australians would know what I mean - flashy paint jobs with wild engines, enourmous wheels and fancy interiors with spotless body-colour undersides that look like they've never had mud splashed on them, ever. to get more to the point, why don't we start a competition for models based around what Auto Salon and Summernats do? having a miniature car show would be the ultimate test of ingenuity, trying to come up with the most dazzling engine/paint combos. anyone else think this would be a good idea?

yeah i love the idea, been looking for an excuse to do a mad paint job anyway, hehehe, i have seen some of the cars you are talking about, the strangest was a subaru imprezza done up like a rainforest with snakes and stuff everywhere, even the discs were painted like plants and animals and stuff, interior was well weird, bloody drugs, lol.
yeah we should definately do this
post a set of rules or sumfin as well to keep it competative. and set a 2 month deadline maybe, im rambling now

Im not even a modeller and it sounds like a good idea to me. Hell if this idea becomes reality, I will take up model building, I would love to be involved.

Sounds pretty cool to me!!:sunglasse :sunglasse
Here's a picture of a few "show" cars for Dr.AK. It's not perfect but hopefully it gives an idea about the showcar thing.

So basically, the "show cars" are tuned cars, right?
Or is there any speakable difference?
And most of them are japanese? I don't get the notion "show cars???"
maybe wildly tuned cars? making it ricers then?
Olivier (confused)

now that is what i term as a show car, something that is purely built to show skills, not to be driven. allowing you to go mad without worrying about practicality or anything silly like that, but one of these is gonna take time:bigthumb:

essentially summernats is mostly the V8 based crowd, like myself, but the auto salon boys have entered the elite competition before, but have never really made much of a splash. what I am suggesting is a contest that is a mix of both real world shows - ricers and japs doing battle with metal mountains and mickey T's. It would be judged the same way, however. car taste would not come into the scoring, you would mainly gain points fior the ingenuity and engineering of the car, as well as the wow factor it produces. what we're looking for is something that only vaguely resembles a factory built car, a real mechanical monster.

Sounds good I like the Summernats. I think a show like the Motorex would be more acceptable compared to the Summernats, the Summernats has things like the burnouts, go-to-whoa etc etc I hate the Autosalon, too many riced out cars there. The motorex has awards and rules corresponding to something more, model-like. Like best hotrod, best paint, best display, best engineering (sort of relates to plastic), best engine, best club display etc. Sounds good though :bigthumb:

how about you organise that one becausei wanna enter this one, this one sounds like a lot more fun than the motorex series because stuff like that alreasy exists

Good idea, i know that a lot of people on this forum would classify cars like this as "rice" and i get a lot of BS about shit like this, but i really like the idea.

before we can start, I would like to ask some of the esteemed modellers in AF (who wouldn't consider building a car specifically for this contest) to be the judges. the awards would be based on how many points are awarded in separate areas (person who earns most points for engine bay gets 1st place engine bay etc) and person who earns most points over all the areas would be given top judged award (AKA the winner). would any of you like to volunteer for judging duties? I need people who build a variety of models and are experienced in the actual building process.
