Hey man I am also 16 and I have a 85 300zx Turbo, my insurance is pretty high because it is a two door, two seater, sports car, and on top of that it says Turbo on the registration, my insurance is around 1600 every 6 months, but its worth it! I am just waiting for my car to become a classic so my insurance will drop, i am not sure how many years it is before they consider the car a classic.

O-k, well I ahve a '85 300ZX Turbo, inssurance for me is 1,180 a year.
That is beause I get 15% off for having above a 3.0 GPA, and I watched some video and signed a paper that gave me another 15% off.
It was cheaper to insure me under my '85 Z than a '91 Dodge Caravan (van) all becasue of how old it is.
And cars become classics after 20 years.

I am also 16 (well i will be in october) and i have the same question. A friend wants to sale me his 1990 300ZX non-turbo (for now:wink: ) for $6000. To top this off it has a new engine with only 20,000 miles on it and its a pre production model. How much would insurance be on this car if its not a turbo?

I'm 17 and about to buy an N/a ... if I remember correctly a 1990 (same year as the one I'm looking into) atleast for State Farm will cost about $280-300 a month... don't quote me I can't find my papers where I got the quote.

Hey dude, go for the Z car - Its AWESOME. Yes, the insurance may be a little high...but it will probably lower when you get older. I've had my Z TTurbo since I was 16 too, Red/black.

I dunno, but let's look at it this way. Sixteen years old + 300zxtt + sports car rate at insurance company for sixteen year old male(assuming u are male) new to driving = Very Expensive even with the good grade/drivers ed. discount
The only way to find out is have your parents call up a couple insurance companies to get some quotes.

i heard that insurence companies catagorize the cars by their performance measures, and their body styles.
it is differed from company to company,
but according to nationwide, they say that
300z is in the same catagory as a corvette.
which means that the insurence cost will the same as driving a corvette
and on top of that having two turbos!!!!
im not sure about the older generations, but 1990+ really definately
a sky-rocketing price!!!

They score them according to the cost of the parts + crash test ratings + STOCK HP + and then body style. Ofcourse Hatch backs and coupes are going to be more, they're smaller. It's not so much the Twin Turbo's as it is the HP the car comes with stock. If you buy a N/a and slap on a couple turbo's and put out say 900 HP after some engine work, you pay the same for that as you do when it was a N/a with 222 HP. Then the age factors in, having to do with average driving experience and the number of accidents people that age cause or are a part of.
Oh, and the Value of the car at the time of quote, IE a 1990 300ZX TT say is work $7000 (made up a number) and a 1995 is worth $14,000. Well the overall value of the car is greater. So a corvette for example costs more than a TT did, a TT was at most ~$42,000 I think? New. A corvette runs about $50,000 so it'll be a bit more. :2cents:

There is a trick to this.
1. Register your parents as primary driver.
2. Add on two or three dummy cars (cars you own but wont drive ie parents cars)
3. PUt the deductible on the other car to as high as it will go (higher deductible=lower rates)
It could cut your rates in half.

It differs between companies. i have a 94 eclipse with fullbody kit. my insurance would be the same even if i have turbo becuase my insurance just goes by hte name(eclipse).its considered high risk.

well at 19 years old with no tickets and no wrecks on my record. and factoring in student status with track and motorcycle endorsements on my liscense. my 78 NA z has never cost me less than 200 a month for liability and never less than another 200 a month for full coverage. with a better driving record than me and even a less powerful car, you are probably looking at similar numbers. god help you if you have a worse driving record. :banghead:

17 with a perfect record and being out of High School (Waiting for College) liability for me on a 92 Z32 TT was about $100 a month... That's with my mom's car on the policy, and myself as the primary driver, never got it but that was what it would have cost.

Most insurance companies will rate the insurance cost of a sport cars according to the youngest listed driver. Those of you who have insurance under their parents name should check they are actually covered; the insurance company is well within their right to dishonour a claim if you weren’t listed as a driver on the insurance.

Hey, whatever works. Just dont be an idiot and speed all the time (just some lol). Remember, with this type of car, a lot of kids that start driving forget that they have a lot of power at their foot that can get away from them in a big hurry, so just be careful and your baby will be good back to you

Well, im 17 I own a 1990 300ZX N/A Automatic... At least thats what they think. haha. Coming soon is VG30DETT 5-speed, with the UAS Monster intercooler  . But its still in the air. I got my Z when I was 16, and insurance was 35 dollars a month due to it being in my fathers name, and 5 other cars (96' Trooper, 2003 Trailblazer, 2001 Jaguar, 2000 2 door Yukon, and 2000 WRX) so it was cheap. Oh and dont let the other cars fool you, my brothers and I were forced to work our asses off to obtain our cars. We all mowed lawns since we were 6 to get those damn things :p . (WRX oldest bro, troop and yuk middle bro) Hell, I bought mine for 1900 bucks, painted her through the local college for free, and fixed the broken lifters for 75 bucks... Its funny what you get when you work a lil' eh? And KoRnboy... I like your quot, I do think the same way about things, very theoretical. "But I personally think that life itself is just a simple dream that is projected and affected by our own means of self escape, there is no such thing as death, life is only a horrible dream changed and altered by the imaginations of our selves." O and to answer your question home-boy, a Z is worth it! And to answer the poor-ol-blokes question from Aussey, go with the R32... Drive ur ass over to Sydney, then to Unique Auto Sports on Victoria ave. and buy ur ass an R32! Im sure John'll(john penlington, hes kinda a celeb. over here) help u out! Speaking of John... I want his Z. Haha! And if you see him, ask him when that carbon fiber wing's coming along. damn, what were we talking about???  peace

I thought i was the only one! I'm fifteen too but i'm getting insured (and my dads 92 civic lx <i dont like it>) but with the civic alone in south florida, insurance is 2000 every 6 months. I still plan to work for the Z32 TT (or a SW20 w/3sgte swap) and plan to purchase by next feburary. I chose those two cars because they're not that commonly tuned/(drifted maybe) down here (usually civics and tegs)
