'87 Gnx

I consider the GNX to be the last of the true muscle cars, and one of the most attractive cars of the 80's. Is this anyone elses dream car?

The 1987 GNX was definitely the last true muscle car of the 1900s (not counting Pony cars). Buick performance fans have been waiting ever since. By the way, I have known quite a few owners of Turbo Regals - a true sleeper Gran National (though not up to the GNX).

The turbo regal you're referring to is probably the Regal T-Type. It's got the turboed 3800 V6 like the Grand National. I wish they had turboed the LeSabre T-Type:frown:

That's correct. The Buick Turbo 3.8 V6 is quite an engine - and makes any car its in a true performance car.

Ah yes the Tubo charged 3800, they say it's arguably one of the best GM performance engines ever made. I dont entirely disagree with this statement.

There is one Buick that you did forget to mention that's probably the rarest of them all- The LeSabre Grand National, only 117 were made.

Here is some information I got from the site I visited:

-Production figures has been reported as 112 and 117. (The more reliable sources report 117.)
-Available in black and possibly white. (Black more common.)
-All are based on LeSabre Coupes (two-doors).
-3.8 SFI Liter V6. Production cars were NOT turbocharged, but a prototype may have been.
-Wheels are 15-slot 15" x 6" aluminum. Also used on Electra, Park Avenue and Riviera (Hollander Interchange).
-Emblems use all red V6 logo. Although the Buick parts books list Regal GN emblem part number, this is a mistake. The Red V6 emblem was available and had a separate number..
-Special interior treatments.
-Rear, side windows covered with louvers. Window opening much smaller. (Compare production car to race car.)
-Hood Ornament is same as 87-89 LeSabre T TYPE.
-Sometimes confused with 1986 Century Gran Sport (not Grand Sport).
-The '86 GS was a similar appearing all black car based on the FWD Century.

Kinda disappointed that it wasnt a Turbo, but still, a forgotten car of the eighties.

They did!!!! I used to own a '78 LsSabre t-type 3.8 turbo but it was't
intercooled so it was't that quick.

The problem would have been torque steer. The Turbo 3.8 litre engine would have proven difficult for the platform to handle. Also, the turbo engine was a 3.8 not the 3800. The 3800 was a later version with cross bolted mains. The 1989 Turbo Trans Am used the 3.8 litre block with 3800 heads.

What is interesting is that the Turbo Regals had aluminum wheels and (in most cases) bumper supports. They also lacked the wings that the GNs had. These made them lighter than their more famous counterparts by about 100 lbs. AND they were available in colors other than black ;^).

I know of several high to mid 11 second Regals that only have had bolt-on mods (no N2O or head work). Mine has been modified extensively and has run 11.04 @ 119.7. It also has working air, power brakes, steering, windows and locks.

IMO the GN is the bang for your buck car. Yea they mayy be more expensive but to get a GN in the 11's is cheaper and eazier *sp* than any 5.0 mustang, or camaro. to get a 5.0 in the 11's costs over 2k at least. to get a Turbo buick in the 11's is 1k or less.

The gnx was the most bad a$$ car EVER made as far as i am concerned...... 13.3's stock, goin fast with class!!! Definitely my dream car!!!!!
