Clutch noise

1992 Civic Hatchback with 66K. With engine running and manual transmission is in neutral, when clutch pedal is depressed, the engine/transmission area becomes considerably quieter after about 2 seconds. When clutch pedal is released, the noise instantly comes back. Kinda sounds like a scraping noise


Ive been told it the bearings, and that usually they are replaced when the clutch is replaced. Any idea if this sound correct, and if so will I mess up my transmission more by driving it for another month or so?

the same thing happened to my car. when i pull in the clutch the noise goes away, but comes back when you let go of it. is your tranny grinding when you are driving, if so then it could be your synchros. thats what happened to my tranny so i decided instead of fixing it i'lljust use that as an excuse to get my b16a.

IT sounds like your throw out bearing to me. Yeh you usually change that when you put in the clutch.

thats what a few people have suggested it is (throw bearings). Any idea if i will be okay driving like this for a few more weeks? Or will driving with messed up throw bearings funk up something else in the tranny?

your trans can seize. So i dont know how long u can drive it for. My boys siezed and my bros.

Its most likely NOT the throw-out bearing, its an internal bearing called Input shaft bearing. I had that problem on my tranny.

Yes the throw-out bearing should be replaced with a new clutch

Well, our good friend listened and drove the car, and he also says its the input shaft bearing.

Where did you take you car to get that fixed? Im in the chicago burbs, so if you know a good place, please let me know! My friend says it may be cheaper to buy a new trans instead of paying someone to open the old one and just replace that bearing. Any idea how much a job like this will cost?
