Hey everyone first off I think this is my first post, I registered a long time ago but never became a frequent.
I drive a 2000 black cavalier coupe. I have done a few mods but nothing performance wise, as I am not the smartest when it comes to that.
What have I done?
- 5% tint back window and rear
- 18" rims ( will be here tomorrow )
- rear speakers swapped to JBL competition
- 2 12" alpine type r's
- custom sub box
- alpine v12 for subs
- apline vseries ( sitting at home waiting to be used when I get some front speakers )
- Sony xplode deck, forgot the model it is a nice one with a flip face, I have mounted it properly with the original hu in the back.
- couple of decals etc..
- in the works of doing custom led job for interior/exterior should be done in a week.
I am more of an electronics type guy, into the computers etc.. will be adding an xbox and lcd to it very soon ( Have xbox @ home and never play it + got wicked deal on a lcd ).
Now what I am interested in doing is adding a body kit and a carbon fiber hood etc.. I know I can do all that on my own. But where I need help is, I want to make this car go fast. I hear I can put in a v6 grand am engine no problem? What would you recommend. I really like the look of this car with a body kit and all the mods + I got a real good deal on it ( $6000 cad aprox $3500 usd ). So please don't tell me to buy a new car if I want to go fast ;). Anyways I would like to add suspension + lower it etc.. please let me know what I should do and how I should do this? I am really in need of some help here. I have been looking all over the net and haven't come up with much info so I am hoping a couple of seasoned pros here could lend their brains for a bit of help.
Thanks guys,

welcome back to the forums, that's a pretty good start for your car. sounds like u have some money so i won't be reserved in any ideas for cavaliers. now i'm not sure of your intentions w/ this car - show car or just a hobby. but oh well, body kits for cavaliers r becoming common, just look around and see which one u like the best, your car. u could drop a v-6, but not the one's outa grand ams (3800). u can drop a 2.2L, 2.4L, 3.1L (v-6), or 2.2L ecotec. my personal choice would be the 2.2L ecotec, though there is a big dispute over it and the 2.4L. ecotec, kinda new and hard to get, more money, 10 h/p less than 2.4, but half the wieght of the 2.4. 2.4L has 10 more h/p than ecotec, more parts right now, but more will be coming for ecotec in the very near future. u could put in a different engine than list aboev ^, but it'll be really hard. for suspension, there's many choices, spring coilovers ($150-300), true coilover ($1000), air bags ($1000-up). true coilovers is the most reliable and most comfortable. spring coilovers tend to make the car wobble, bumpy rides, air bags r by far the coolest-adjust to any height from inside the car-but sometimes and cause bumpy rides. strut bars and sway bars r a must. sry it was so long, but i hope it helps u out, post back w/ ne more Q's.
