$2000 complete turbo setup?

I used to think a complete turbo setup would cost about $3500, but I found a Greddy kit for only $2000. Would I need to inlcude anything else with that kit? Also, if I had a b18b and ran 8 psi, what kind of hp could I expect?

I have heard about an average of 10HP per PSI. So I would say you can expect "UP TO" an 80HP increase. In reality I would expect around 5-7HP per PSI. It all really depends on how weel you tune it, on how well the compressor is matched for the engine, and on your airflow and cooling.

The b18b can safely handles 12lbs of boost with no problem, unlike other b-series. For $2000, i'm assuming it is either used, or without an intercooler. List what it has in the kit, we can help you out with what you might need.

As far as PSI and power goes...I borrowed this from howstuffworks.com:

The typical boost provided by a turbocharger is 6 to 8 pounds per square inch (psi). Since normal atmospheric pressure is 14.7 psi at sea level, you can see that you are getting about 50 percent more air into the engine. Therefore, you would expect to get 50 percent more power. It's not perfectly efficient, so you might get a 30- to 40-percent improvement instead.

Thanks, that helps. The kit includes "cast manifold, FCU, air intake, piping, hoses, oil lines, and miscellaneous hardware." So I assume I would need to get an intercooler. What about a blow-off valve and a down-pipe?

Dang...thats not a very complete kit for $2000...Yes intercooler is highly recommend for boosting over 8psi, even though if you are not boosting over that, you should still get one..may be a small side mount, most of the bigger one are the front mount intercoolers. So for a basic turbo setup, you also need these:

- Intercooler
- Wastegate
- Blow-Off Valve
- Downpipe
- Missing Link

To run the turbo more reliablely, you might have to do some fuel and ignition upgrades in the future. Such as, fuel pump, fuel injectors, Fuel Rail, Fuel Pressure regulator......

Get a better exhaust, the stock one would not do any good.

8psi expect around 190hp@wheels..

yea that kit doesnt provid much for 2'g i say put in the extra 1500 and get the greedy kit and you will get everything you need.
buying small parts like the ones not included can add up...

Thanks. That's what I feared; turbo is damn expensive. Ideally, I'd like to get about 230 hp to the wheels. I can't decide if the cheaper route woud be a boosted b18 or an NA b16.

By the way, that $2000 kit is a a Greddy kit. That's why I thought it was such a good deal, but apparently not. It was off of a site called genxracing.com.

The new Edlebrock kit will be out for the B18B1 soon, get that and expect good gains. It comes with a new intake manifold with 4 additional injectors on top of your stock ones. Talk about potential, run 12 PSI (it comes with intercooler) and get a good 3'' exhaust system and I would expect somewhere around 250 WHP.
Or atleast with the stock setting of 8 PSI, and the exhaust you should see 230 no problem.

That's awesome! I wonder how much it cost, and when it's coming out. A boosted b18 is sounding better and better.

I just saw the ad in SCC, and it said the kit is for '96-00 SOHC VTEC Civics. Would it still work with the b18? Btw, it's $3500.

No that one won't work. But they are coming out with one for 94-00 RS/LS/GS tegs soon.
