Adjustable cam gears

Do adjustable cam gears do much in the way of increasing power or do they just move it to a different part of the rev range? I know you can pay over $500 for them out here, but i can get some standard gears modified by an engineering company for about $180. is this a good idea?:confused:

You got it in your first sentance, all they do is adjust where in the rev range the car will make its power.

If the car was poorly set up at the factory, or set up so that top end power was compromised to make the engine more useable at lower RPM then you can get more peak power out of an engine, and make the car faster in some situations.

But generaly on a standard engine they are a waste of time.
However if you do get any kind of aftermarket cams then they are a good idea, as provided you get them tuned on a dyno they are often a nessicity for gettng the most out of your new cams.

Going to get cams one day soon, had it tuned a bit, makes most of it's power right up top now, it used to run out of legs at about 6000rpm. now it pulls right up to 7500

Then it sounds to me like you dont need them, unless you want to get them now for when you get the cams, but I have to say you are better off waiting untill you actualy get the cams, as its all to easy to spend the money on the cam gears, and more money on the dyno time to get them dialed in, and then forget about getting cams and do something else.
