20g question

ok another 20g question for you guys..

what rpm does the big 20g make full boost. saying the car has all supporting mods? i know it starts to spool at 2-3k and lets say the boost controller is set at 20psi.

wut happens IF it lags, 20g is pretty big. Get NOS to start it up.

nitrous to spool a 20g is overkill. The 20g is a small turbo by todays standards. 2 years ago it was "race only" but we all know better now. :wink: On a BR style 20g (TD05 with a big clip) full boost is ~3400 rpm. On a larger 20g like my TDO6H I got full boost by 37-3800 (25 psi). I also have full 272 cams which increases boost threshold and lag. A green spools at about the same time, 37-3800 for comparison and has slightly more flow capacity.

how does that compare to the td-06 20g? im saying slower spool up but can make more hp. is that a race only turbo? :confused:

I have no personal experience with a TDO8, nor do I ever want to have any. If TDO6 turbos can run 9s with or without nitrous, why increase your lag needlessly. The hot side of the turbo has to match the displacement of the motor. A tdo8 was never meant for a 2 liter :wink: Nor was the tdo6, but we accept some lag to make the flow we need to make the power we want. When it comes to turbos stick to whats proven. At least in general. :smile:

It all depends what you want out of the turbo. Do you spend most of your time in the 4-7k range? Yes? Get a gi-normous turbo. If you want streetable power (good power at that) I would look in the very place you are looking now. My boost comes on full a little sooner than Kevin's, but that is probably due to my stock internals. If you want to drop a gear on the street, and fly by an unsuspecting V8, a 20g is a nice choice :)

FWIW, I rode in Al Blaha's Supra off the juice (usually used to spool his HUGE T6) and it was boring (forgive the use of that word) up until 5500 RPM....not what I would want for a daily driver despite the 10s on the strip ;)

the 20 td-06 is the way to go.

Any turbo that spools before 4k is still a lot of fun on the street. When it comes on it'll put you in the back seat, and you'll forget all about the "lag." After 4k you really start to feel it, and its very important to be in the right gear and to have a setup meant to take advantage of a high rpm power band. I already have the 272/272 cams, now I'm working on a sheetmetal intake manifold so I can take it to 8500 rpm and still make power. For what its worth, my TDO6h GT 30/40 is good for over 600 HP, but I still see 25 psi by 4500 rpm. Its not that bad. I jsut need to be able to take it over 8k and I'll be perfectly happy with that powerband :smile: I shift at 8k now, which reduces the lag over shifting at 7500... I'm rambling, but I hope this helps.

I really don't know that much, and continue to learn about these beasts on a daily basis.

You can REALLY pull on V8s by dropping a gear, though there are many, many V8s that you probably don't need to downshift for ;)

95 GSXracer you did alot of work to your car and use it for a daily driver right?
does parts go fast on you car. i'm talkin about the little thing..

yup, my car is fairly well modded. I do all my won work. With 200-300 drag passes per year, and 35000 miles per year, it does require a fair bit of maintenance. If I didnt do my own work, I would have a much harder time keeping up with the cost of it :wink: I'll be driving it less next year. Still daily drivable, just wont be using everyday. At over 165k miles its time to let it relax a little bit I think :lol:
