Right now I have a mainly stock integra GS (b18b). I've been looking at swaps recently and been looking real hard at what u guys been talking about (b18c & b18c5). If the swaps gonna run me round 5-6k is it really worth it to get a swap or can i just spend that sort of dough on a forced injection and some other mods and get the same...yet better hp/tourque....also im trying to rack up my tourque....how should i go along to do that...and what would it cost me

Also referring to the which one to buy...get the gs-r ... its worth the money and u can do ALOT more to it...i say that the type R is just for bragging rights

If you get that much money in hand to consider about the Type-R engine and shits...i would say fuck the B18C and B18C5 swap and keep your b18b and turbocharge it. Your b18b good enough to handles about 12lbs of boost safely, with a lil upgardes on the fuel and ignition system, you can pull up next to a GSR and Type-R and leave them in dust.

But N/A wise, the b18c5 from the type-r are definitely best engine out of all the b-series.

Tranny wise, alot of people get different opinions due to their gear ratio, but personally, i like the LS tranny with it's longer gear.

Type-R is not just for Braggin Rights...Stock to Stock...Type-Rs kickass!:icon16:

awsome...that'll save me alot of work in the garage...and down time. But another quick question im trying to find the best deal on a turbo and the best manufacturer. I've been told Greddy is prob wanna the best but I've been looking at neuspeed. What would be the best turbo for its money? Hey...i can't spend too much...gotta save up for those ground effects! :bigthumb:

For your car the Greddy kit would be best, since they make it for 96-99 integras. The kit doesn't come with an intercooler, but thats OK. Just run low boost levels at first, then when you get more money get the intercooler kit. Not having the intercooler also saves on installation time too, you don't have to do everything at once.

Thank you so much for the info....ill look into the best prices on that greddy and see what i can do! See ya on the streets!

swaps are a waste of money and time! how about this... try doing the original thing and building your motor from what it is! i am so sick of people saying i swapped a b18c5 or i just got my b16a2 in my civic! wow... so you spent 3grand on an engine with the same or less torque that you started with! good one! i have a non-vtec b18a1 with stage 3 cams, i/h/e/ignition/fpr/mugen spec ecu and i can put down 160hp and 130tq at the wheels easy. here is the best part... it cost me about 2,000 to do all of that. so the extra 1,000 is for all the chicks! yay! now forget the swap, forget vtec (which was designed for fuel economy, not racing) and start building what you have! unless you have a civic, then shoot yourself in the head!:bloated:

That's the most ignorant post I've ever read. Basically, you're a cheap bastard and even with those mods I highly doubt you lay 160 to the wheels. :bs: Post some dyno charts or get out of here with your VTEC envy. http://www.garagetuners.com/images/smilies/jerkit.gif

if you like i can upload the dyno sheet!:biggrin2:

Plus, with some cars, you have to do a swap. If you're driving a CX that comes stock with 70 hp, you can't exactly build that up and expect any power. Maybe you could completely re-work the internals and turbo it, but then it's practically a different engine, and it would cost you more to do all that than to just do a swap.

Whats so hard about 160 WHP?
Lets break it down, bone stock it does 115 to the wheels. His mods are:
Stage 3 cams-15 HP
Intake-5 HP
Header/exhaust-10 HP
Ignition upgrade-5 HP
ECU-10 HP
Theres your 160 WHP. VTEC is not needed to go fast. Why is it that when people have VTEC they think their car is the shit?:loser:

first, don't misunderstand the SOHC VTEC-E, SOHC VTEC, and DOHC VTEC technologies, the first is only for fuel economy like you said the others are specially made for best high rpm performance.

160hp at the wheels???? are you sure?? it means your output is almost the same than a B18C5 w/195hp at the flywheel (not to mention the original B18A w/140hp at the flywheel), I think you should tell Honda what you did, they will be surprised of what you've done only with those cheap mods.

B18C5 makes 170 HP to the wheels.
And the cam swap he did made the biggest difference. Did you read my post? I broke down all the mods he did and named HP levels for each one.
BTW the original B18A1 had 130 HP.

the cams are definately what helped put down the good hp and torque, but not just that, but working in conjuction with other mods (ie: i/h/e/ign/and ecu) the power was even better.
look... i am not totally against vtec, i am just trying to make sure that people know vtec will not make a car faster, it will however help a lot with fuel economy and high rpm drivability. Why do you think pro drag cars run non-vtec engines?? I am not trying to start any fights here, i am just suggesting you build the motor you have. If you find that it is not fast enough, sell what you have, and do the swap! I am sure you will see that a decently modded b18 block will give you much more happiness than a stock b16anything. Once you have felt what torque feels like, you won't look at b16 blocks the same!

ps- thanks pw for the breakdown.:bigthumb:

No problem, I didn't see what the big deal was with believing 160 WHP anyway.

ok PW and Elite, I don't wanna argue anymore with you, I think we've taken the long way deciding to go for swaps and the big bucks spent on them and you guys don't, we've learned a lot of things while we make our swaps which makes it a unique experience, but at least we jumped out of our poor sohc engines (not in your case elite, you already had a dohc one) but you're right, sometimes we expect the cheap things = less power and the expensive things = a lot of power, and this isn't always true.

that's all, and good luck with your future mods!

I've seen C5's w/ basic bolt ons dyno at 147hp and fully built 2ng gen B16's w/ twice the amount of mods dyno in at 163hp. Both motors lay down more than 160 to the fly. Post the dyno sheets. Even then. There is no proof it's yours but go for it anyway. I need a good laugh. This break down of mod gains is enough for a damn good chuckle. I guess I'm pushing 190 to the fly huh? You win the award.
