Does anyone know how many chargers were used in the show "Dukes of Hazard"? (one of my all time favorites) I know there were alot, and how many survived? I recently got to see a real car from the show at a local car show, man it was the coolest thing, so thats why i'm asking this.

no idea, but you can probably find out by going to george barris's website, or one of his fan sites, i think his is www.barriskustoms.com, could be wrong though. he modified the original cars for the show at anyrate, so id be a good place to start

I know that one survived. It was the one they used for the close ups. I don't think any of the jumped cars survived that kind of beating, in fact towards the end of the show they had to use a different car because they ran out of Chargers.

One of the General Lee cars was featured in one of the auto magazines awhile back. I can't believe that they went through so many Chargers during the filming of that show.

I believe there were 2 or 3 cars that were used for most of the shots, i.e. all the close ups with the guys jumping in and out etc.

Then they would wreck on average one car and episode doing all the stunts, but it would be a stripped out car with a paint job and a roll cage.

Im sure the orginal close up cars are all still around somewhere in the states, and many of the stunt cars also lived on in various guises.

One of them is sitting in a padock somewhere in the central North Island of New Zealand. Its just sitting beside the main highway.

They wrecked 210 cars. I found it on some fanatics webpage while surfing for general lee info. I'm turning my skyline into the first General Lee in Japan.

yeah they wrecked way too many of those cars in that show. Making it harder to find parts for people like me but.. now that my cars done it doesn't matter :naughty:
my buddy has a 69 charger that is a duke's replica and we always cruize around town together...slightly.... less chaotic than in the actual show... no cop cars with stupid cops in them to give up and hit the donut shack if they can't catch us... they just radio ahead :nono:

In case anybody is still monitoring this thread, the show wrecked approximately 280 cars over the 1979 - 1985 seasons. Not all were '69's, but were 68's and 70's with '69 trim and mod's. There were survivors in varying degrees of condition. About 5 yrs ago or so, Warner Bro's sold the 20 remaining survivors to Wayne Wooten and the members of the Dodge Charger Registry. the only specifications of the sale was that the buyers were NOT allowed to make a profit by charging to see the car. Mr. Wooten was sold the 'close up' car, which was all done properly, as opposed to others which had their interiors spray-painted the beige colour to make it look right, just befor it took a nose-dive into the dirt.

and sorry to correct you challenger72rt, but none of the GL's in the series were 70's, all were 68's and 69's, too time consuming to change the front end as well, 68's were much easier to modify.
