Hey guys, just wondering, but does anyone have a Glass Pack exhaust? One of my good friends has one on his neon, and it sounds awesome, and i found a few on ebay really cheap...has anyone used one or know of someone who has one on a 4g? are they illegal? I heard they were, but my friend has one and i like the way it sounds...any info would help :bigthumb:

universal "stainless steel" mufflers are glass packs, they are just shiny and have a tip on them.

I thought a Glass Pack was a muffler with the insides made out of fibreglass. After some use, the fibreglass burns away and they get really, really loud.
I haven't had one since my 70 El Camino.

PS-Did I say LOUD?

I never had them on my 4g. I had em on my camaro and on my daily driven 70 Chevy pick up. There kinda noisy. I run the longest ones too. I have heard them on a HB and a 90 TEg and they dont sound great. Realy raspy and nasty sounding. Id reccomend a stainless magnaflow oreven the auminized one if your budget is tight. I have one on my car now and sounds good...mellow and quiet but at WOT is mean. And most "fart cans" are the same as glasspacks...since they are round and usualy have regualer fiberglass shit packed in it and blow eventually. Most good companys still use fiberglass but they use more or wrap it so it doesnt blow out. If you put a glass pack as a muffler and replaced the resonator on the b pipe and used the longest glass pack possible it could sound good..but for the price of two glass packs and install you could get a manaflow.

what's the exact name of the magnaflow exhaust? do they make one specifically for imports? one of my dad's friends told me he used to know a guy that took flowmasters for a Z28 (dual pipes) and moded them to go out the side, and said it sounded awesome...but im not into that..but kinda the same concept...where can i score a magnaflow exhaust and can u just slip it on the stock piping or did u have to use new piping? thanks...

Cherry Bomb is a brand name of a glasspack. and a glasspack muffler is a muffler that is packed with fiberglass in the resonator chamber around the inner perforated tube.. which is what most universal mufflers are.. its just that the chamber is bigger, therefore theres more resonance and it gives a bassier tone.

BigExhaust.com is were I got mine. Jegs sells them as well. You can use stock piping. The muffler is the same style as a stock one. They would probably just weld it on like stock and put a new tail pipe since i assume you would get a muffler with at least 2'' inlet outlet.

our stock piping is 2.5'' right?

I'm getting glasspacks on my car tommorow. I thought about getting a tanabe racing medallion, then the guy said he would do 2.5 inch piping, test pipe, glass pack, and a tip for 235. I went out and heard his car with a test pipe and a glasspack and i thought it sounded great. Pretty low, didnt seem too ricey, not way too loud (defnitely not as loud as the racing medallion).

i think im leaning towards the glasspack....it seems like some people have awesome/horror opinions about em.....

but i dont wanna sound stupid, im still learning...but what is a test pipe? is it like a down pipe?

I'll let you know how i like my glasspacks tommorow... a test pipe is just a straight through pipe instead of a catlytic converter. It's illegal, and you wont pass emmissions though

sounds good man, i gotta stay legal though.....does having a Cat make a signifigant amount of difference anyway? i just want something that soudns good...nothin ricey...but better than stock..and im on a tight budget so let me know how it sounds :bigthumb:

they only sound good when combined with mufflers, when alone they sound crappy http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/skatemesa1/images/cherrybomb.jpg I replaced my tired resonator with a cherrybomb and it sounds great.

I think people get pretty good gains with removing the cat. Ill let you know about that tommorow too, cause i gotta install the test pipe myself, theyre just making the flanges, so ill see if i notice any diffrence.

runnin a test pipe will make things raspy. Use a resonator...If your still stuck on a glasspack...get the longest possible to get rid of the raspy sound

<[4gen91CvcLX]>

how much would a resonator cost and where can i find one?

r33th4x0r
07-30-2003, 12:19 PM
dude i dont know if this "raspiness" happens over time or what, but the car i heard yesterday with glaspacks and a test pipe sounded awesome, definitely one of the best. I didnt even stop by the shop planning to buy right then, but once i saw how cheap it was and how good it sounded, i decided right then to get it. If you go to a shop somethere there probably has glasspacks on their car, so just ask them to hear it and decide for yourself. heres a site that sells resonators, im sure you could find a better deal if you look around, or just talk to a muffler shop. http://www.marcor-genie.com/geniepricing1.htm $168 for 2.25 or 2.5 piping. I'm going with 2.5 inch piping on mine.

Well i got my car back today. It sounded pretty good with the cat, but a little ricey. the guy said the sound was resonating in the cat, so when i put the test pipe on itd go away. I put the test pipe on and it has an awesome sound but its really loud. I even think i lost some power after i put the test pipe on. My tires dont spin nearly as hard when i shift (possible i just cant hear them as much over all the noise) and it doesnt seem to pull as hard. I guess i prob dont have anough backpressure and its causing me to lose torque.

I'd recommend flowmaster, there cheaper then magnaflow and they have a deep sound to them that most hondas dont have, glasspacks make your car sounds like "rice."

ok just one more question...can i throw like a flowmaster or magnaflow or any type of muffler like that on my stock piping and it sound as good as you describe or should i just go ahead and get custom piping as well? because if that's the case i'll just go with an Apexi N1....

r33th4x0r
07-31-2003, 01:39 AM
You might as well get the custom piping done since its so cheap. Ive heard people say custom piping sounds like crap, but whatever, i dont know/care if its true or not, im just happy with mine. It would be nice to get a good stainless steel system... Definitely more money though.

Mine is a header back but the res. was put back in and it is all stock size to res. and 2 1/2" back from the cat. to the flowmaster.

mine was $190.

r33th4x0r

that must be 190 + the cost of the flowmaster right? I got my test pipe, 2.5 inch piping, glasspack, and tip installed for $235, and im damn happy i didnt pay 550 for a racing medallion.
