Possible electrical issues??

I have a 97 GTP. I have been having issues with the tachometer dropping to zero while driving the car! The other noght I had the cruise set at 65 and all of the sudden, the engine sputtered and the tach dropped to zero! The engine kept running and my cruise stayed on! It has done this before though, just a random thing. If I am going slow enough it will quit completely and I'll have to start it back up. Also my HUD does not work very well. Once in a great while it will show up, otherwise it just fades out. It use to work, not sure what happened? That's why I'm wondering if it might be electrical. If anyone has any ideas, please let know, if you need more details or have more questions please feel free to ask.

I looked up some stuff in my GM service manuals that I bought for my 98. You might want to try replacing your TPS (throttle position sensor) on the throttle body, or the Idle air control valve.
On my 98 the TPS sensor is located on the bottom portion of throttle bodie ( you facing engine) and the IAC is above the TPS
HUD
According to the manual if the HUD is INOP
1 check the ip-ign fuse if that isnt it then get one of these manuals because it gets into the schematics and what voltage different connectors are supposed to be.
Sorry cant help more, there is just no way to describe what it says in the thing

Thanks for the info, where can I get one of those manuals? I have not fixed the other issues yet. I plan to start with the fuel filter, if that doesn't take care of the stalling issues maybe the fule pump resistor and if neither of those work, new fuel pump, and I will get an aftermarket one if I can! Thanks again and let me know about those books, also I bought my GTP used and there was no owners manual, can you get a replacement? Later.

I'm having simialr problems with a 1997 Grand Prix GT. Every once in a while the car will hesitate slightly and the tach will drop to zero. The car also has started to stall out and have hard starts. I took it to a mechanic today and they diag'ed it as a possible faulty crank case sensor. Only problem is they didn't replace it as it didn't repeat the problem to them once they reset the codes in the computer. Of course once the car got "hot" again the problem started back up.
There is another thread out there by T-Tow ( http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=125268&highlight=t_tow) with the same problems. There were several ideas mentioned on how to fix it including the crank case sensor.
Can anyone confirm that the crankcase sensor can cause the car stalling, hard starts and/or the tach dropping to zero? T_Tow or GTPSleeper could you verify if the crankcase sensor was the cause of your problems? For some reason neither of them came back to let us know what was causing their problems...
Lastly, Can anyone tell me how difficult it is to replace the crankcase sensor? Is it a job that someone that usually only does oil changes, brake pad changes, etc should try to attempt?

I have not had a chance to check out the crank case sensor. I would be interested in finding out what it might take to do that also. Let me know if you here anything.
