Engine Trouble( I think) Help!

I'm hearing noises in my engine, or at least I think its in my engine. I had a mechanic listen to the sound and his guess was that the cam bearings were going out. He said he couldnt tell me for certain unless I paid for a diagnostic test which is like $60. Another guy listened and he was certain that the water pump was bad. So I got the water pump fixed and yet I still hear the same noise. It sounds like something inside the engine is loose. It has a slight grinding noise. The noise is not too loud but annoying. Its worse when its idling or when it hits 3000-4000 rpm. The car runs fine and performs well. If anybody has any suggestions they wil be appreciated. If all else fails I will probably have to pay for a stupid diagnostic test.

just pay the 60 bux for ur diagnostics test man.
why would u risk a guessing game when everything else is fine. get it done right the first time, it saves u more money, and since ur still driving around with the same problem, ur probably GRINDING something that shouldnt be GRINDING inside the engine.
think about it, the more u prolong the correct fix, the more ur GRINDING whatever it is that is making that noise.
see how bad the word GRINDING is with car parts.

i agree... there IS something wrong, pay the 60$ and figure it out then get it fixed... don't risk an even bigger problem and have to pay hundreds or thousands of $$$$ to fix it ...
