I have a 91 civic si hatch with the lame rear drums. So, how do you swap in some crx rear discs, I have some mechanical knowledge, (I have done the hybrid engine swap by myself) how hard is it to do? What parts do I need?
thanks,
djK1
p.s. what is the difference between the eye mount rear shock and fork rear shock and how do I know which one I have?

are discs really that much better? because atleast 70% of braking is done by the front brakes. Do people usually just do it to be different or for looks or something?

i personally think its a waste of money, and that most people do it for looks because the drums look pretty gay, but if im gonna spend my money, its gonna be on going, and not stopping ... and i know you guys are all gonna say "well why go fast if you cant stop fast" but :thefinger

Well its not gay....but its also not very functional...

I definitely want to do it for cosmetic reasons, because drum brakes are just plain fugly on any car.

im probably going to do it cause my drums are shot and i have no ebrake currently cause of my drums being shot. So instead of buying new drums, shoes and possibly cylinders i'd rather jus tgo discs so they are easier to work on and look a lil better.

yeah the only reason i would do the swap is for looks and the ease of changing pads versus shoes, plus nothing looks better behind a 17" wheel than a HUGE rotor with a MASSIVE caliper, and if you're gonna do a big brake kit on the front, you just GOTTA do it to the back, otherwise it just looks goofy... even if the front brakes do 90% of the braking...

Brake bias is a factor, but you have to remember that drums aren't as efficient as disks. When wet, a drum will not operate as well as a disk (neither work that well anyway) and the caliper pressure from disks is a lot better than a single piston drum setup.

I find the disks on my SiR are better than the drum/disk combo on the Aussie GL. Then again, the front rotors are a lot bigger, as are the calipers.

What I do know is that most modern cars run disks all round - which tends to indicate that the manufacturers/designers know something :)

Better rear brakes will probably allow more of the rear to do some braking which would reduce 'nose dive' when slowing down.

but yeah, who needs brakes, all they do is slow you down.
