Mods for a '95 Cavalier?

OK, so I'm gonna sound like a total chick here, but I need some help. My passion for cars is just starting to take off but I still don't know enough about them. I was recently convinced to buy a '95 4-dr Cavalier, base model. You know, the ones with the plastic bumpers.("You don't need anything fancy if you're only going to drive it to and from school" says the father) Anyways, I can't stand the look of the plastic and was wondering what kind of options I have for body work that I can get done on the car. I've been told that you can get the plastic painted, but does this actually look any good? or what about the various body kits out there? I originally wasn't going to do any modifications to this car, but figured I'll have this car for at least the next few years, might as well like what I drive. I'm willing to put in the cash to make it look and sound decent, so any ideas and suggestions would be great. Thanks!

well if u just wanna make your car look good for starters, yea getting rid of the gay plastic bumbers is a good start and replace it w/ a body kit. the only 4dr body kit that i can think of off the top of my head would be bomex's, (aka - BMX, Type-X, SR2), u can prolly check ebay for the cheapest, but watch for s/h. tint the windows, paint job, euro taillights, rims. all that will cost ya about $2k. and that's not even getting into the interior, system, and performance. if u wanna hear more, reply back, good luck.

free mod, rip off the plastic covers on your climent control knobs, it makes them clear and they look tight at night

Thanks guys, and Krebs128, for standing up for me  Yea, I am just some stupid chick, but I'm trying to learn. . . .I kinda figured I'd have to go body kit, not really any other options that I could see. In buying the car I didn't really have too many options, but I figure I'm gonna play around with this car, learn some stuff, see what works and what doesn't. Then my next car I can really have some fun with.

it's really her descision whether she puts euro's on her car, b/c it's her car. i was just making a list of possible things she could add on.
alana - no problem, if u have anymore Q's, just post on here and someone will be able to answer it for u.

Is it Auto or 5 spd?
Either way save the 2 grand. Keep the body stock. Perhaps upgrade brake pads and disc if you feel the need and slap in a Turbo. Nice little sleeper. Work from there on out. According to my friend (which he has a 95 cavy Auto) he found a Turbo for $1800 with everything needed for the 2.2. All you would need is a good friend willing to do some cheap labor installing it CORRECTLY and you would be set.
P.S - It might come up to about $2500 give or take a little after the time it would be strapped to a dyno getting a proper tuning.
Either way, it's your car, enjoy it while you have it. Good luck.

Thanks guys - been a great help. And for those who asked, it's an automatic :banghead:. Now just have to come up with a lil extra cash flow and I can start to play. Tuition is due soon, which is taking up a good chunk of my savings. :frown: One of these days, she'll get there.

i have a 96 that was wrecked...i got it for $50.00...
i put about $400.00 into it and got a good car out of it...i put 20,000 on it already..
heres an idea...the kid i got it from had it repainted...a bad paint job at that...the people who painted it did not prep thw bumpers right and now i have a flakey mess all over the front and back...
if you do go ahead and replace the bumper plastic i would be willing to make an offer to buy the old ones from you...
i would like to have the grey stock bumper over the mess i have now...
as far as the engine...
i bought a Intemedator brand cone shaped air filter from walmart..
then took a cambles slect soup can and cut the bottom and top off..
then removed the air filter box and inserted the soup can in the intake
hose and put the filter on the other end of the can..then tightened the
hose clamps ...then laid the filter in the spot left by the filter box..
this simple mod has litterally doubled the fuel milage....
