removing engine questions

ok i'm here but i have a couple questions.

i see the bracket on the front of the block for hte hoist chain to hook to, where exactally is the one on the back?

when i put the engine on the stand, what bolts do i use? none came iwth the hoist i rented, i called them and they said they have standard bolts that would probably work, but i wanna check here. And exactally how do i bolt it on?

more questions will probably come as i get into this more.

none of my honda engines had hoist hook locations... d15b2, d16z6, b18a1.. none of them had anything like that. I just used a tow strap and a cherry picker and wrapped the tow strap around the engine/tranny.

as far as the engine stand, just get some standard bolts.. they will need to be the same thread and size as your transmission bolts, but a little longer. You take the tranny off and bolt the engine stand onto the engine as if it were a transmission.

ok next question, how do you take out the spring pin from the shifter rod?

The spring pin is easy. Grab a phillips head screw driver and a hammer. You will need to tap out the pin. It will take you a little time and effort. Most of your effort will be put into moving the pin the first 1/8 inch. After that it will get easier. No worries installation will be simple. As for the engine hoist. If you are rebuilding that engine, then pull off the valve cover, and lossen the head bolts. Bolt them down with the chains. They should hold up just fine. But I would find a better way to hoist it when getting it back in. Hope this helps.

how do i disconnect the halfshafts from the tranny? when i'm doing this, do i need to disconnect anything else from the shafts?

i ususally take the dizzy out bolt the chain to one of the bolts used for the dizzy, then take the altenator off an bolt the other side of the chain to the altenator braket hole

u can use the motor mount bolts for the engine stand


u can pry the axles out with a flat head screwdriver, just becareful of the seal on the tranny

ok well i pried the driver's side shaft mostly out, its not connect to the tranny, but i can't seem to pull it out enough to clear it, how do i do that? and right now the passenger side is just tuck, so i'm gonna go back out and put all the force i can on it.

still cant get that freakin pin out tho, should i hit it from the bottom or top?

ok shafts are out, i just undid some other suspension stuff and i'm good. as for hte pin, i'm lost... help???

I think I hit mine from the bottom, not sure it matters though. I would use a punch though because if you use a fillips head screwdriver like someone said, you risk mushrooming it so that it wont come out. Find a punch thats the right size and it should come out pretty easy.
