GM Crate 572

A N/A 502 sounds like a good motor... But theres nothing like a fat blower sitting on top a big block under the hood.

I'd personally go with a centrifugal type blower like ProCharger. Keep it all under hood so's not disturb the classic lines of the '70 Chevelles hood.

I plan on doing a similar setup to my Nova, I'm really looking into a Procharger setup for a carb'd motor. It'll gain me 40-50% increase of power and it looks damn sweet to see that giant snail parked under the hood. :iceslolan

well first how much is a little bit of money to blow? because if you are planning on building it yourself be prepared it it NOT cheap! and takes alot of time and patience.

i think your best bet would be the blown 454 because as far as cost goes to build it will be more bang for you buck. just make sure it is a four bolt main!

if your going crate engine just know that your actually paying for a stock block that is at least 2500$. (stock)

also another thing to think about is tranny. because if you go for the 502 then your definetly gonna want a automatic, because it will to hard to control in a manual. but on the other hand the 454 will be soooo much fun with a manual. plus with alot of horses you want a racing clutch, witch is again expensive.

i'm only 17 so write me back i definetly wanna know what your doing, i enjoy this kinda stuff alot, i built my block myself and it is so much fun if you have the time and money. my recomendation is build the 454 h.o. with a fat racing clutch......don't forget whellie bars!

wow this is old, it has a blown 454 mated to a 700r4 trans and runs 12's on street tires its also been painted a weired purple color (wasnt my idea)

I dont know if the 700r4 was a good choice for a tranny unless it was really built up for a big block. But put some slicks on that thing and get it in the 11's. Oh and what are the specs on the engine??

you didnt mention if the car is a sb or bb car, while there is no substitution for cubic inches, i would purchase a crate motor for ie bill mitchell or world products, for example. if the car is a factory sb, he offers 454 cid sb chevy motors, with very impressive numbers. check the website as he offers bb chevys too. i ve been around drag cars for most of my life, and although they are intimidating, ive never seen a blower car that was very fast.

the hemi is great in a mopar, buddy had a 526, and it was nasty in his roadrunner, 650's eight mile on street tires thru the mufflers. but we were talkin about a chevy.
