ghost flames

Here's my attempt at ghost flames. I used gloss aluminum (tamiya) and pearl white (craft paint). This was my first try and I think the results were pretty good.
Next time, I'd sand the where the flames were masked a little better. Maybe put another coat of pearl white on to hide the flames more. A nice thick clear coat would have been nice too. The reason I didn't do this time is because this was only a test, and the pearl white cracked.
At certain angles, the flames are almost invisible.

At other angels, the flames are clearly visible. Let me know what you guys think.

Shockingly good results, did you use the tutorial here in the boards, or just another technique???

if your ever going to use dupli-color mirage paint, spray on the semi-gloss base coat, and after that dries, paint on the flames using flat black, then apply so many coats of the mirage paint. I havent tried it, but i think it might work.

Yeah, I pretty much followed the tutorial, except that I painted the flames body color after removing the masks.

The flames look great. I'm planning on trying this myself one day. I really like the colors you chose. It's a winner....

That looks awesome! :bigthumb: How bout a little more lenghty explanation on how you did it? I know I'd love to try this but always though I'd have to have an airbrush to do it.
