Pull yours out and try to start your car. lol.
No I haven't had experience with them but I am kind of weary of the idea of tampering with my timing. I figure Honda engineers thoroughly examined all possibilities when programming the ECU so unless a higher redline is needed due to an all motor beast, I wouldn't do it.

I have two friends with chipped ecus and there is a very noticable power gain what the new chip does is change your air/fuel curves as well as slightly adjusts your timing. In both integras we chipped it gave about 18hp at the wheels on the dyno which is pretty damed respectable if you ask me. As for the factory ecu is preprogramed for fuel economy and emmisions so if you chip your fuel econmy may slightly suffer. Oh and if you have a 96 or later integra its to much of a pain to chip due to OBD II ecu so if your erlier than 96 its a kick ass mod.

Was that with an LS or a GSR? Just curious.

that was with a 94 and a 95 LS that we chipped with this chip and an intake you can easily take a stock GSR.

is this a chip where you have to program it to your mods?..or a preprogram chip like the ones on ebay that gaurentees power?

This is an actual preprogramed chip spoon, mugen, jun,skunk2,xs and hondata make em'. They do sell these chips on ebay just make sure you don't fall for the other "chips" they sell on ebay that guarentee 20hp and go for 2 dollars because all it is is a resistor that slips inside your intake air temp sensor "fooling" the computer into thinking the air coming in is colder(the IAT sensor works of temp/resistance readings) and supposedly richening your fuel mixture. The only problem with this logic is that these computers have very "smart" logic ciruits and when this "chip" richens your fuel mixure the computer picks up that the O2 sensor is running rich and therefore closes the injector nozzles a bit so you lose the supposed gain. The other computers I mentioned earlier raise your redline and REPROGRAM not fool your computer for proven HP gains.

OH and to answer the other part of your question some sellers will preprogram the chip to the current mods(therefore helping with a extra hp) you have and some will just have a better fuel/air curve and timing settings.

Sorry for the repeat posts but one other thing if your not comfortable and skilled with a soldering iron don't do this mod yourself take it to a local electronics shop.

Hmmm. You got me thinking now. That really makes sense about the fuel economy thing. Are there any side effects your friends had with theirs? What kind were they? What shops do you think could do the mod?

wny one know which one to get, theres different one and i definitely don't want a piece of crap chip or resistor , and can u guys be spefic on the brand , thanks

So far there are no known side effects that I or they have noticed(the chip has been in about 12k miles or so) but I'll keep you posted. And as for brands just read my previous post and i give a list of good brands to get which are all or at least most are available off ebay.

I've got a Jet V-force module I'll sell for $130.
Just do some reaserch on it before you think about any chip you buy...

up this..anybody know any brands on ebay that do work?..like experience wise what brand has been used?
Sid77

The difference is the fuel/air curve and timing setups between chips I'm not sure which ones are better but you can't really go wrong with any of the ones I listed cuz both chips we used gave the exact same performance increases on the dyno. Now as far as doin the work a local computer store that actually knows what there doin or a tv repair shop should be able to do the work.

my personal opinion is spoon or mugen for chips. both brands come precalculated and all u have to do is simply desolder your old chip, and solder in a socket in its place. once this is done, all u have to do is put the new chip in the soldered socket. all the socket does is make it easy to change chips if u want to. i have chipped my 91 teg gs and have noticed serious power gains..especially around 4 k and up. the chip will also raise the rev limiter which isnt necessarily the best thing for your engine, but u actually will still develope power up until about 7600 or so. But like sid said...dont fuck with it unless you have substantial experience with soldering. But yes, a simple $15 or $20 chip off ebay will do just fine

if you buy a whole ECU replacement (skunk2 or something) can you do it yourself? i saw where the ecu is, by passengers right foot. it looks just like connections on a computers hard drive, can you just unplug the old and plug in the new one or do you have to do any tuning?

i have a question.... i have a 97 GSR (obd2) so i went on skunk2 and they only have chips for the obd1.... so my question is, is their any way to chip my ecu with seeing gains besides getting the ecu adapter and buying a obd1 . cause i havent seen many if any chips for the obd2....????
HGL1668
12-27-2003, 10:34 PM
well, i don't think there is chips for OBD2 because they can't be reprogram, thats what i think, cause i have a 2001 GSR (which it has a more restricted OBD2 than urs) so I got a OBD1 and the adaptor chipped it with mugen, I don't know is that good or not, and can I still remove the chip and bring it to some place and have them chip one to my car's app?

I ordered a Spoon Chip for my 93 LS ... I'll let ya know if it actually works. $21 shipped, if it doesn't it won't hurt my bank any.

The e-bay chips are programed for a specific motor, and the sell it asw a universal chip for specific motors the fuel maps are all wrong and everything, you night gain.2 hp yet lose everwhere else and comes built with free poor gas milage. I'm just saying the ebay 20 buck ecus are crap.

you might be losing more than 21 bucks bro. the ecu is the brain of your motor fucking with it is not something you can take lightly can lead to a lot of damage and a lot of shit going wrong. the ebay chips are shit. i wouldnt even think bout putting that shit into my teg or civc. our local performance shops makes there own chips i chipped and my ecu in my civic and i could feel a notacable difference

Yeah man, you gotta be careful. Some of those worthless fucks will sell anything to make a buck, like the "mini turbocharger" that was just a bilge pump or whatever.:screwy:

hey good luck and if it turns out any good let me know. i wanted to try one after reading the many feedbacks left for the seller, and they said u can see gains of up to 15 hp, but i was at the same time sorta skeptical.

They tune the ecu's for a specific motor and sell it for all the other motors. since you are obd-0 you might be receiving a ecu that has been maped out for a CRX.

you say your local shop makes the chips. How much for a stock 95 LS integra? or do I need other mods for a chipped ecu?

I got the chip today, says "Spoon Sports" on it ... that's promising, not very big I think what I paid was a good deal, moreso, a CRX doesn't have a B18A1, so that won't happen. Only Integra's have this motor.

i am picking up my chipped ECU on sunday(only took me four months to get it done) and well see how that one wheathers. i also bought another PR4 ecu for my 91 teg just incase it isnt what they said. My ECU had some Mugen sticker on it, i dont think Mugen the racing team/company are the actual manufacturs of the product though.

If you are serious about tuning your ECU and messing with the beauty of a Honda tested ECU; then save those dollars and cents in a piggy bank and hold out for a Hondata Engine Management Kit. You will not be disappointed and you will be forced to learn more than you will ever want to know about remapping an ECU. Another option would be looking for a local tuner group that will tune your ECU to your own driving preferences. Remember quality first will prevent you from buying quantity.

i picked up my ecu(chipped) today, plugged it in and th car didnt start! so i took it home did alittle work, clean up the sodder. and the car started but there was still a rev. limiter, and the check engine light was on, i read the code and it said that it was the autmospheric pressure was off ( whatever that means). so that was a waste of money and i am back to stock PR4.
