I dont know whats done to ur hatch but i think the rx-8 runs low 14s right off the jump. I Love the rx-8! I think i'd choose that over 350z!

man u do not even know. i know the numbers might not be alot but if you ever get to drive one , you will not think of it as a torqueless wonder. for one its rwd and also it has an awesome suspension setup. dont forget thats its only a 1.3 liter, i would like to see hondas 1.3 compare to it. its already 14 secs and this is just stock. rotary power. and just wait till all the aftermarket comes out for it. not to mention it is The chick magnet :iceslolan

yea 1.3L in rotary specs, its nice and all but.......what if something goes wrong....your gonna pay out the ass to get it fixed and if you can fix it yourself.....shyt then you deserve a handshake, ide deff choose the 350z though.....its already a living legend

well we were actually lookin at the z , but its only a 2 seater, and also the Sti but it doesnt really have the style we wanted, so the best compromise was the 8.

SIGH ... FFS A rotary will out rev most engines under the sun... gee, torque and RPM... I wonder what that equals? Oh that's right... BHP. Go buy a book on basic engineering please.

13Bs were never as "torqueless" as the 10A or 12A and the 12A would smoke a stock USDM/Aussie Civic out of it's shopping wheels in stock trim in a Series 1 RX7.

As soon as you bolt a turbo on the notion of torque goes straight out the window and a well-built rotor will rev to places that you and your Hondas will only dream about (excluding F1).

Civic's are great little cars but nowhere in it's league STi WRXs still suffer from bullshit WRX gearboxes that blow up if you look at them wrong and have from day one. The 350Z is ok, but the interior is cheap and the handling less than spectacular.

The RX8 is a very nice car all round (bar petrol costs) - don't give me BS about it breaking down etc, if you can afford the car then you can afford the mentality - just ask any Ferrari owner :p

the Sti has style but its totally different. it has a huge boxy wing and big ass hood scoop, that screams function. but its no where near the rx-8 in its elegance and design. my uncle owns a Sti and it is so quick, super short gears too. but it just isnt the same as driving the rx-8.

as for the 350z im not really that impressed. nissan could have at least brought the skyline over here.

?? I know they were weak, but I thought they fixed that in the last couple years, actually it seems I read when they switched to the new gen they worked out the prob with the tranny.

The RX8's aren't really that expensive...slightly more than a V6 Accord. $28,000 MSRP.

Rotary engines have the potential to be far more reliable than any piston engine, they have so few moving parts. Maybe Mazda finally got it down this time, its much simpler without any turbocharging.

It still puts out 153 ft/lb of torque, which is low compared to the horsepower output, but it's still a lot more than most Honda engines.

From what I here they still blow - nowhere near as good as the EVO boxes. Most people are upgrading to dogbox setups once they blow the stock boxes. It seems to be an ongoing issue - people havent stopped complaining about it. With a stock motor and good treatment they are fine - wind up the boost and hard launch and they die.

As for the RX-8... I'm sorry, but Mazda still equals Ford in my head... even though no one on the Ford design team probably has anything to do with the RX-8... but the ford name sake stands for cost cutting all over the spectrum.
The rotary engine concept in itself is a bad ass one though... even though it may look like there's not much base power there, once you take it up into the higher RPM range, they will own you.
As for the STi is designed after a rally car, and is not meant to compare to the RX-8... And yes, the gear box was redesigned for the STi but it still has major problems after you get a few miles on the car... especially if like most people who buy them, you try to race them all the time.

I personally though, am already saving for a VW Golf R32 in the new Mark V body style. :bigthumb:

I would love the RX8, but damnit, it's 4door. It ruin's the look having those extra doors. The front end looks super badass though. If they come out with a 2 door version, I'd buy it in a second.

yea but its has freestyle doors, like suicide doors. it looks so sweet, becuz ppl dont think there is 4drs. its one of the only true 4dr sports cars that can fit 4 adults too.

i think the RX8 is a great car. the whole idea of rotary engine is pretty cool and i think mazda has finally got it right this time. if i was out looking for a new car right now, i'd probly either get the RX8 or the new EVO. the 350Z is nice too and so is the STi. that new Golf looks really nice. that's the first time i've seen that. there's just too many nice new cars coming out.

like someone else said, i would take any of those cars in a heartbeat over my old CRX. i still love it, but it doesn't compare to the cars coming out now.

See, the mark IV body style looked just a little too boxy for my taste... but to me, this one looks just right.

whywould they name it the rx-8, rx stands for "rotary experiment" and they already screwed it up once, and they look kinda funny, not my style

If you knew anything about the rx-8, then you would know that the concept drawing and concept vehicle were designed over 10 years ago.

Ford took over operations for mazda america, and the vp's at ford thought that the overall concept and design of the rx-8 were too radical for its time, and that it had no place as a production car. So the design kinda fell through the cracks.

That is, until mazda perfected the new design of the renesis rotary motor. They just needed a platform to use it in. Then someone realized that they had this car already designed, and that no one had bothered to do anything with it for the last 10 years. So in essence the only thing new about the rx-8 is the motor, which is an amazing improvement over the last gen rx-7.

Whats really funny, is that even though the bulk of the car was designed almost a decade ago, it fits right in with the other cars with similar styling like the 350z and the g35 coupe.

And for those who doubt the efficiency of the rotory, think about this. Our cars (and most others) use pistons to create the actual moving motion that creates power. One of the reasons that they can produce more power with less displacement, is that the rotor is moving in a circular pattern, just like the wheels its turning. It doesn't need to convert up and down piston motion into a circular motion. Less loss of energy = more efficiency and power.

I am pretty excited to see what this car is capable of, and what other cars will be brought here as a result of its inevitable success. I believe we are about to experience here in america, what the rest of the world has had for years. Im just waiting for the big daddy's arrival...aka the skyline.

In my opinion I think the RX8 and the "Fairlady" a:k:a the 350Z are both equally amazing machines...they both show amazing style, structure, and "new age" of sports cars to come...

its nstill awsome, dont get me wrong, i have a 91 rx-7 hard top convertable in my garage right now, hopefully getting picked up this week or next week so i can bring my truck home, but remember its still a rotary engine, and if you dont take care of it the tips go and that equals screwed.but to be honest, it is a great buy, good for you, just try to make your VIC faster than it

blue4g2def

Mazda perfected all of the little 'mishaps' with the previous RX-7 rotaries for the new engine. These include much thicker gaskets, etc.

Its amazing that it produces the same amount of HP NA as the older Turbo engine.

But still, the styling looks like it was made for the street rather than the track. Youre not gonna race with 4 adults in your car. I'd take an FD over the new RX8 ANY DAY!!! The FD is the best thing that ever came out of japan.
