Power Window Problems

Both of my front window regulators went out within 3 weeks of each other. I am talking with Nissan now about it because I am 2k over my warranty. The dealership wants $400 per window to fix. Since I am not going to pay that for a car I have owned for 2 years, I am trying to get Nissan to cover it due to defective parts. However, the dealership makes the call on that, and I don't think they will bite. Anyway, does anyone have info on a campaign to get these things fixed with WORKING parts? Or a number to talk with a Nissan guy about this crap? By the way, 2001 Jettas have this same exact problem, and V-wagon is voluntarily extending the power window warranty to 70k!! My wife's power windows broke 2 days after mine. Hers were fixed that day. Wish Nissan was that good.

I to have had lots of problems, I have a Nissan Altima 2001 GXE LE
it started with my Rear Passenger window within the first year of the car, following a year later the front passenger and the left rear passenger, and 2 weeks after that the Driver side window. I also know someone who has an Xterra with the same problems and yet another person with a 2001 Pathfinder with a window problem. Luckily im still under warranty. I will be happy to sign anything to prevent this problem from happening again to anyone.

I also have a 2001 Altima GLE LE. My drivers side window has gone out at 39K miles and Nissan could care less. I have written them two letters complaining about several problems from paint, upholstery, and brakes.
Good Luck I haven't even gotten a response from Nissan Consumer Affairs.

I hated to find this thread.
We just bought a 2002 Xterra from Hertz.
We just had the SIXTH window regulator fail on my wife's 2000 Regal. We have only had the car about 2 years and 20K miles.
The first repair was under factory warranty. The second and third under Warranty Gold extended warranty. The fourth was on our dime when we found out WG was bankrupt.
I repaired the fifth one myself and if the Xterra design is similar I have some insight into why all of these window regulators are failing in new cars.
It appears to be directly related to the cable push-me/pull-you setup that is probably lighter and less expensive than the scissor jack design of years ago. A braided steel cable runs around some plastic guides and is anchored to the window support bracket in a piece of plastic. It is too easy for the cables to pull through the plastic pieces and thus fail. Once the cable pulls through or jumps the guides the motor keeps pulling until things are trashed and the whole regulator has to be replaced.

I have also had problems with the power windows in the 2001 Nissan Altima GXE Luxury Edition.
It started in the passenger window and I noted it at the dealer before the warranty ran out. I now have problems with the passenger and behind the driver. I am debating extending the warranty over this, but these conversations are making me rethink this.
There has been a recall on some Altimas, Xteras, and Frontiers. Check the infinitihelp.com website for the info.

I have experienced the same exact problems with my 01 Pathfinder and know 2 others with it also. Had it fixed 3 times under warranty and now that I am out of warranty all 4 windows have the same problem when it is cold. It really stinks.

Just to let you guys know that there is a known problem with Nissan Altima's power windows. There seems to be problems with the regulator, where the window jams or will not go up. Nissan replaced all four of the regulators on my car, free of charge. There is a recall on them, so who ever has these problems should not be charged.

Power window regulators on the Xterra have been covered by an extension of the standard warranty or by recall based on region.

I would like to add to the number of people with this problem...power windows,01 pathfinder. At 5 degrees faren, the drivers side did not go up. Had to drive to work with window down. Then after a few degees warm up, it went up all the way slowly....they said i needed a new regulator at 500 per window. 5 months after warrant expired. Every window is slow, so it will probably eventuallly happen to all of them. I think i will wait until the spring, leaving the windows up the whole time, and then sell it to a dealer...Let me know if there is a recall on this..

the thread seemed to be about nissan windows, not just "xterra", see "altima", "01 Pathfinder" in other posts...sorry if that upset you that i included my woes on this thread.

I know, this issue got sidetracked! I go to the Xterra forum to read about Xterra's. Not everyone chiming in with problems with every Nissan made.

update on my 01 pathfinder power window problems...
I went to nissan dealer and explained problem. They wanted $85 to diaganose problem. I told them, "you know what the problem is, Nissan seems to have a history of this problem, so I am not paying $85 for you to tell me its the regulator". Then he gave me a price to replace it, and it would be $500. (for one window..the others are slow, so they will probably need replacing also) So, I told him no way, this should be some sort of a recall, etc., etc..and so he said he would see what he could do. He called nissan, and then me, and said Nissan would pay for it.
So this website saved me, first $85, then $500.

Call your local Nissan dealer and give them your VIN # and they'll run it to see if you have any recalls due.

Hi
I have the same problem with my 2001 PAthfinder. My power windows barely move. I spoke with our local Nissan Service Centre and he told me it is due to the tight rubber seals. The seals were designed tight in order to reduce wind noise but in cold weather it severely inhibits the action of the window. He said that I just need to come in and have it lubricated from time to time.
Originally they thought it was the regulator/motor too but changing it made no difference. That is when they discovered the lubricatng solution. Unfortunately it requires return trips to the shop in winter
He has recommended calling the Nissan 1-800 number to complain (800-387-0122). Please call!!
hope this helps save some cash

Mine don't keep the wind noise down, and they don't move. Maybe I'll just break 'em out and go wheeling. :D

When my window quit working on my 2000 X the dealership would not cover it they wanted $95 an hour plus cost of parts. So I went to the local junkyard and what do you know they had a red x with a sort of fresh window moter w/regulator for $35 they even installed it for me for an extra $30 but it was worth it saved me a bundle.

My driver side window on 2000 Xterra will not consistently go up. It goes down fine.. All others work fine. Does anyone know how to fix it? Is their really a re-call on this problem? Freezing in Jersey!

There is no recall on the 2000 models, it's only 2001/2002 models.

Clean first then hit the window gasket/rails with silicone spray.
