Difference between GT-R and GT-S

What is the difference between GT-R and GT-S other than engine. What is the major difference in the engines? Which one has better suspension? Is awd available on a GT-S? What model GT-S are there. Sorry to ask all the questions.

hmmmm... perhaps you mean whats the difference b/w the GTS-T and the GT-R

That would be better for comparison...

Most obvious differences...

R32 GTST:
-Single Ceramic Turbo
-RWD
-160kw @6400RPM (or about that cant remember exactly off the top of my head)
-Comes in 2 main flavours, GTST and GTST Type-M (M is mainly more options, like skirts and other stuff)
-Came in 2dr or 4dr
-Engine is an RB20DET which is a 2litre DOHC EFI Turbo engine
Compression ratio is 8.5:1
Bore is 78 X 69.7
0-100kph (60MPH) is around the 6.8second mark

R32 GTR:
-Twin Turbo
-4WD ATTESSA System
-206kw @ 5600RPM
-Can also get a VSpec which like the type-m had a few bonuses
-Can get 2dr and 4dr versions but the 4dr which was released by autech which was authorised by nissan is VERY rare
-Engine is an RB26DETT which is a 2.6litre DOHC EFI Twin Turbo engine
Compression ratio is 8.5:1
Bore is 86 X 73.7
0-100kph (60MPH) is about the 4.8second mark

the list goes on and on and its 2:30am so i will finish the rest off tomorow or somehting if no one else has... if i remember.... its a pretty broad question tho :D

So the GTR is the only awd verson?

No, GTS-4 is as well.

The difference is truly NIGHT nad DAY between the two. I have one of each, and the GTSt does not even come close to wha the GTR does in perfomance, and handling. And Looks:)

Is the GTS using the same awd system as the GTR is there a GTS-T awd or do u have to mod it to make it awd?

the R32 GTS-4 is basically a GTS-T with AWD.

the R33 GTS-4 has AWD but a non turbo engine

Remember that most Europeans think of the GTSt and GTS25t as being GTS's........

Simply put, the GTR was designed to be a street driven racer, the GTS/GTSt/GTS4 was designed to be a cheaper altenative.

Theres a very simple differnce.

I well sorted Honda Civic, or factory spec JDM SiR Civic will run rings around any non GTR skyline, be it an R32 GTs-t or a GTS25t.
But you need something a little more exotic like an NSX, or a Lotus, or one of the more exotic Italians before you can keep up with a GTR.

Get stuffed moppie. My bog standard R32 GTS-t ran a flat 15.0 in the 1/4. With exhaust and pod filter done mid 14's. Intercooler and turbo mid 13's. Considering it had wheel spin for nearly 1/3 track and was still crossing the line in 13.6's @ 108mph that was damn impressive.

I thought you like the other GTR owners got over the "I only own a skyline to cover my insecurities" complex? :p :p :p

I know of a VTi EE9 (European SiR) that's run a 14.8 in stock standard form, and then simply went faster as things like clutch and better tyres were added.

But you forget that Iv driven a few GTs-t's, and Iv passed even more on the road.
A well sorted low milage car with a good engine and a better driver might make a 15 in stock form, but that describes only about 1 in every 100 GTs-t's.

And you know that a 1/4 mile time is a very poor way to compare a cars true performance, I never seen or driven a GTs-t that could out handle an SiR, the Civic will always weighless, and will always have the supiour suspension design.

Am I to believe that the difference between a GTS and a GTR is a Civic?

I spose a Civic engine is almost big enough to be used as a starter motor for an R

It wouldn't have enough torque. :p :p :p :p :p

I was just winding up a few lesser model Skyline owners by pointing out that the GTs-t is not even close to the god like performance of the GTR.
There is a bit of a problem here in NZ with owners of lesser skylines thinking that the letters "GT" in the badge and a turbo under the bonnet makes thier car as good as a GTR. They can then get very insecure and defensive when its pointed out, or demonstrated to them its not, and that there are many cheaper smaller cars out there that are infact faster. They get even more upset when its a Honda, a company that in the minds of the ignorant only produces economy cars, while every model Nissan ever made is a highly tuned sports car, even a 120y.

I would make them feel better by pointing out that an EF9 SiR has about as much in common with a lesser model Civic as a GTR does with a 4cyl skyline, but that would be no fun ;)

EDIT (Just realised your a wellingtonian Nemisis, but Ill leave the NZ remark above for the benifit of those from else where, as Im sure you have similar problems in Wellington that we get here in Auckland (despite Wellington being the superior city (but I never said that))

I take it you mean the narrow mindedness of some Skyline drivers...... you should have a look on the SDU forums..... sheesh....... hell, according to them, I drive an inferior car too, even tho it'll beat most non GTR's......

The GTR is an AWD monster with the excellent RB26DETT- while the other GT models have the RB20DEor DET- which is a crap engine IMHO- the wieght and length of an I6- but with fuck-all displacement- which sort of renders it useless- I'm pretty sure it got phased out after the introduction of the R33 :) Otherwise- what everybody else says:smile:

Yeah, Iv been looking for RB20 powered R33's, but I think your right there, the RB20 died with the R32 and the Cefiro (Thank god, my old '73 Triumph engine which was based on a 50s fergason tractor engine made more power and torque on carbs and pushrods than the RB20 did with two cams and fuel injection).

It actualy marks a very definitive point in Nissans history, right where they showed how much trouble they were in finacialy.
Look at how many differnt versions of the R32 there where, the're as bad as bloody Civics or Corrola's being powered by everthing from an out dated 4cly, to what at the time was one of the most advanced engines and a chassis with more computing power than the space shuttle.
Then along came the R33, and from what Iv seen there are only 3 models, a 2.5l GTS, a 2.5l turbo GTS-t, and the GTR.
Same with the R34 only it became GT, GT-T and GTR.

Or prehaps there were lesser R33 models sold in Japan that were simply never imported here to NZ???

In the R33 there were:

GTR - RB26DETT of course

GTS25t - RB25DET

GTS4 and GTS25 - RB25DE

GTS - RB20E

Personally I prefer not to think about a whale with not just only 2litres, but only 1 cam   :frown:

And in the R34, the GT has the RB20DE engine - at least it grew a second cam :p

That is so correct in your statement Antz. I only wind you up cuz I luvs ya like a brother :bigthumb:

Nothing wrong with a WRX. I only got into skylines because I happen to purchase one 4 years ago. Had I bought a wrx from the get go that would have been my car to stay with, same with an EVO.

All very respectable cars, and honda does have the NSX which is no POS at all either.

I knew you would know!!!

And as it happens I just drove an R33 GTS last night, but you beat me to the posting.
The engine looks like it had been pulled straight from a VL comodore.
And the performance, was well, um, yeah, its probobly not best to discuss it, or the totaly wooden steering (my PS2 controller has more feel) or the suspension with so much NVH I thought I was riding in a truck for a mnute.
The gear box was the cars only good point, being very smooth, and coping extremly well with making a heavy car move with such a small amount of hp.

Its real below base modl car, sold to ppl who only want to look like they are driving something more expensive
