we know this guy. he has been driving for almost 10 years. he has had many cars and is a very very good driver. his newest car happens to be a integra type R. his friend who is also our friend says that he wants to drag me and my friends S2000. and he says that he can beat us. since he is a better driver then the both of us. we didn't laugh at this challenge. the type R has a AEM cold air intake. so it will actually do something. not much but should help it be more responsive on the highend. well the results were rather surprising. my friend is up first, and he takes the TYPE R off the line by a car. then the type R could not catch up, and the ITR ends up losing by 1-2 cars lenght. the S2000 was slowing walkin it thru every gear. so now its my turn. after seeing that a S2000 can beat it. i am no longer afraid of it. we both launched, and this is the best launch that i have ever done in my life. very little peel, perfect clutch control. i just take off. but since i have no limited slip, i only beat him by half a car off the line. to my surprise he was right behind me until 3rd gear. until 60 there really isn't that much difference. so we hit 3rd, and thats went i start walking. and on 4th i walked faster. the raced ended with me beating him by 1.5-2 cars also. this was becasue i didn't stay in 4th because we ran out of road. i was extremely surprised at the ITR. i guess perfect gearing, and low weight helps alot. i have a friend with a SR20DET running 15 psi with a FIMC, fuel pump upgrade, 3 inch exhaust, and a limited slip. and he was only able to beat a type R by 2 cars as well. those things are pretty quick. i am qiet impressed.

What are the specs on the type R ??
Are they THAT different from a regular teg that you only beat him by 2 lengths???
I'm confused..did you ever look under that hood??

the ITR also has a LSD trans, closer geared trans, hollow doors, and no sun roof... so much lighter than a regular GS-R.

yup just like what fatninja. a type R is a high to a mid 14 second car stock. the type R is a world apart from a regular GS-R. a type R is also faster then a stock j spec S14 with the 220hp SR20DET. the type R can beat a S14 with a 220hp SR20DET by 3 car lenghts stock.
P.S. i wish i had a limited slip. then i would've killed him the way i shoulda killed him. i would've gotten atleast 1 car off the line instantly, then after each shift i should pull away alittle.

Let's not forget TypeR's have no A/C either. Obviously even if you had it, it woudln't be on during a race(cause it sucks hp away), but that takes off a little weight also.

and even if your not using your A/C it still takes power away from being on the pulley belts, if it were completely non existant or taken out you would gain some more power then just not using it.

I thought US versions of the Type R were 14 second cars (slow for the $)

well i'm not sure if his has a/c or not. but i know that the 2000 does have an option to put a/c in. and for dmc12, but the type R is not known to be a land rocket. its more of a utlimate driving machine even though its a front wheel drive. unless you sit in it or drive it, you will never know. after i sat in that car, i was very very impressed with its handling. even though i wasn't the one driving.

Nice kill Tat's. Makes you feel good when the "H" goes down in a blaze huh?
Most of the Honda's I've seen at the drags are doing low 15's to mid 14's. The ones quicker are usually being gutted out and a rolling shell.

they weight around 150 lbs less then a GSR. its more of the perfectly spaced gearing that makes the type R that much faster then a GS-R. along with a 9 K fuel cut.

and like Tat said, the ITR is more of an ultimate driving machine than an all out straight line dragger. The ITR sure is hard to appreciate untill you experience one first hand. The car is just so much more raw than a regular GS-R. An example of the car being raw is just experiencing the cam change over... Gad.. It's so awesome. The suspension is quite tight, and the brakes are pretty darn wonderful.
90gs: you are not quoting a price for a Type R new from the factory, so it's not really a valid comparison between a new SRT4 and a used ITR.
98 ITR had no a/c availible, but was standard on 00 and 01 ITR's.

Im not even the biggest Honda Lover but I still respect cars that have balls. The ITR is an awesome car stock for stock its probably one of the best ones. But the problem is they did so much to the engine theres not too many things you can change to give you worthwhile results that are better then the stock pieces for it. You can always turbo it or something but I think that takes away from the appeal of that particular car. They are supposed to be terrors on the racetrack too.... I don't doubt it one bit.

Actually, I hear that ITR's respond pretty well to BPU. And turbo-ing a ITR would really require surgery on the motor if you want to run any type of boost.

Meguiar's had a twin-charged ITR motor a couple of years ago. SC and turbo, and it was on a STOCK ITR motor. Seemed to run fine. They just made sure they had the engine-management perfect.
