so i need to vent..this is the honda /acura forum so you all would know where im commin from...i hear this from my friend all the time.."civics arent all theyre crackd up to be."yea so theres tons of them.iown one..but exaclty what are they crackd up to be?...anyone who thinks that a civic is this road rocket 13 sec warrior is uttelry ingorant....i love civics i dont put them down..its just that i it pisses me off hear people say so much crap when they are so ignorant about cars period...i mean..a civic with b-series swap with basic boltons runs...hard..they can be those fast little road rocket cars..but you need work and money and anyone who knows something about them can agree with me...i say people need to shut up.they are ignorant ..i say more criedt to someone who runs a 12 sec 1/4 than a 5.0 or Z28..its takes far more knowlegde(or if your rich and dont know crap..more money) and time and moeny to make one fast..i truley belive it takes more skill to tune a civic honda acura sport compact period...so poeple who think civics arent all that there cracked up to be well...some of them are...and te ones tha are...well they can beat vipers, corvetts, mustangs(svt)chevelles, chargers..or so they say"real" car..um yea a civic moves back and forth.has a brake and a gas pedal,a tranny, a motor, well gee i think its a real ar...dont you...look bottom line..civics are civics...they have there own class pretty much...put them down all ya want..but hey wait for that day to come when you will be lookin at the tail lights sayin...its only a civic?

I think the reason why people tend to put civic's down more then other cars is becuase of some poeple that buy them, and the stupid shit they do to them. I mean yea its your car, your style do as you want but when you do some stupid things to the car, and especially in the car, thats when people start to talk down on Honda's. But all cars are talked down to, its just civics tend to be talked down more then others. I mean my car is a red turtle, and when I tell my parents about what I wanna do to it to make it fast, all they say is to get a newer car, but its like they dont understand the style, and the love that I have for these cars. Its gonna take me a good amount of my USMC Sign on Bonus to get my car to where I want it to be, performance and looks wise. But all we can do is just shrug it off and forget about it.

I kinda of understand what everybody means. The bad thing about civics is that they have no torque. My mom has a GTP supercharged grand prix and you just cant compare it to any civic. No mater what you do to a civic you wont get the performance of american muscle.

It's just 'cause the civic's are slower from the factory than the carmaro's and mustangs, and they think they are the shit in there cars and they don't do much to them, I think it's the shit when I have a 4 banger beatin up on all them, then you can say woah. Sure you could drop a 350 in a camaro or mustang and be fast. But it takes a lot more to make a civic fast, so basically it's just the way you look at it. I think if a civic is beatin one of those other domestics, you can be like "what now bitch":thefinger

Why would you drop a 350 in a camaro if they come stock with 350's.Oh as for stangs they come with 289's.Yeah but i agree seeing a civic beat on these gass gusslers is nice to see once in a while.

The problem is that there are too many kids out there who don't realize that a Civic is just a Civic when you buy it. A lot of them are thinking that is some rocket when they get some rims and a few bolt ons. And they drive them stupid and make other people in Civics look like morons too. I personally think that if you want a fast Civic you gotta be able to spend some dough, because as you said, its just a Civic. So to me its kinda a do it or don't type of thing. I wouldn't be so into it if I didn't have enough money to spend to make it fast, because damn are they ever slow. Have a fast Honda is not a cheap hobby AT ALL. :(

siz you and I finally agree on something... when I first bought my EX I knew it was slow... but that didn't stop every person that was beside me at a light from revving... it only makes them look retarded. I've got a plan in the works to put a B18 into a 4th gen... but that doesn't mean I've got it in there right now, and it also doesn't mean I'm gonna take my trusty D15 out to the streets and race all the rednecks in their "american muscle" that live around here. It's the kids that give us a bad name, they take daddy's credit card to AutoZone, buy a cheap intake, a fart can exaust, clear tail lights, and shiny hubcaps and think they are starring in the next "Fast and Furious" movie by going out and trying to race everything with four wheels... and occasionally it'll come across a Focus or Escort that it can beat then he thinks he's the master street-racer. Now he could have spent most of that on putting a bigger engine or looking into turbo but when he wants extra power where does he go?!? spray! and that's what everybody thinks you have to do to make a civic fast, most dont even know about a B-series swap, most dont even know that a turbo can be added. Now that I'm making some serious cheese I can finally afford to put into a civic what it needs to be a strong runner... but it doesn't mean I'm going to take it to the streets and try to race every redneck with a truck engine crammed into their cars. I have a friend who has a chevelle, his performance plan is to put a bigger engine in his car... period... that's it... mine is to tighten up the suspension first, bring in a B18, do some headwork to it, re-build the bottom-end, and possibly look into boost options. Now who's plan looks like they gave a damn to think about what they are doing?

No mater what you do to a civic you wont get the performance of american muscle.
My advice to you is sell your civic to somebody that can appreciate it and buy a crustang and go be a master street-poser like the ricer-boy I talked about. :thefinger

here is a famous line if i took that money it took you to make your civic fast i could make a v8 faster!!!!!!!!!!!!! it is all in your preferance of cars. But i can see their complaint most ricers talk about what they are getting and what they dont have. Like wait till i get my turbo or my type r motor when they wil never follow through.

itz just like a hobby....like any kit itz plain and u have a lot of work to do to make it into what you want it to be. as in our cars are slow and are ment for good gas mileage and sportiness...minus sedans:tongue: it takes a lot of work to make our cars fast and a LOT of money. But that's why i compared it to buying a kit car from a hobby shop...b/c the cars are plain and like i said b4, u have a lot of work to make it into what u want it to be...fast. mustangs and cameros on the otherhand...u might say those are diecast....just buy it and itz already made for u... i.e. fast...but u have minor stuff u can do to it....or just build on it since itz already done for u:2cents:

well that famous line hardly ever works, because most of the time domestic car drivers DONT do serious modifications to their cars. add ALL the costs up, purchasing the car, paying the insurance on the car, gas costs, and finally, modification costs. im pretty certain that the import will come out on top.

heres what would happen in louisiana if i tried to build a 91 civic hatch, or a 91 mustang 5.0, both with the same amount of money

buy an EF car: 500-2000 bucks (depending on condition)
insurance: prolly 100-200 a month
gas cost: stock they get 30+ mpg, with all the mods prolly 20something
used b18a setup:500 bucks
rebuild kit: 300 bucks
motor mount kit:300 bucks
turbo kit: 3000 bucks
decent set of tires: 500 bucks

ok, it comes out to somewhere between 6 and 7 grand, give or take another grand, depending on what needs fixing on the car, and the other variables like insurance and such

heres the domestic side of it.
late 80s/early 90s mustang with a 5.0: 1000-3000 (again, depending on condition)
insurance: 200+ a month
gas cost: stock, they get low 20s mpg, with the mods, even worse
rebuild the 5.0: 300-500 bucks
supercharger kit: 3000 bucks
posi rear end: 250-300 bucks
decent set of tires: 500 bucks

this ends up being over 10 grand. sure its faster, but its also more expensive. take off the charger, and it gets closer to the cost of the civic, but at the same time, its gets slower. and this is just the cost for one year, not considering every year you are paying more money for insurance and gas than with the civic.

this is why people modify civics. because they are cheap, insure for less, are plentiful, and have nearly endless possibilities. mustangs are powerful, but they ride on a platform that was outdated 20 years ago (with the platform being hella older than that), cost a lot more to insure, and kill your pocket with the gas.

nonetheless, im still impressed at the torque of them, but i still cant see spending a whole lot more money overall to go fast.

Of course.. When people say shit like that to me I can't do anything but agree with them. Sometimes I wonder myself why I never bought a 5.0 and put a TT on it or something crazy fun like that. But I like my tiny little go kart. Handles well, goes pretty good, and its so cute. :D

hey incucivic u got my words. i was goin 2 say the samething. yeah people buy hondas or acuras cuz they r cheaper to modify. in the other hand mustangs and other muscle cars r way more expensive to modify. its a plus 4 us cuz hondas last longer than american cars

I think import owners would get more respect if they worked to improve the performance of their vehicles more. It seems like a lot of imports are all show and no go. Not to mention they for the most part done in poor taste. I have nothing against imports but all these body kits and clear lights have got to go, they look cheesy and horrible. Stick to performance and maybe domestic guys will give some respect to imports, otherwise most of them will continue to point and laugh.

I agree 100%. Its also why no one points and laughs at my car, and if they do they usually get their ass handed to them.

So are you pretty much just into it to fit in, or what? You've got one because everyone is driving one? Just because every dumb kid that goes to street races is driving a Honda means that they're the car to be in, or what? Does that mean that they're better or faster than domestics? Absoultley not. If when you go to the races and 85% of the cars there are imports, then I'm going to say 85% of the time you're watching one slow ass race.

Do you really think Hondas are fast? Sure, some of them are.. The stripped out 1800lbs ones, and the ones with 3Gs and up under the hood are, but for the most part I'd say 90% of the hondas on the road are 16 second and up cars. Emberassingly slow.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you're not liking this topic because you are exactly the kid that we are talking about in this topic.. Some one with an A6 and maybe basic bolt ons that thinks they have a real road warrior.

To the guys saying domestic V8s are more expensive to do up than Hondas, you must be drinking. Do you have any idea how overpriced Honda performance parts are? Some guys are paying like $600+ for a header for their 1.6 and gaining like 5 peak HP. If you had a 350 or something you could pick up a new set of headers most places for around $100 or so and gain 15 or so HP..
C'mon guys.

it is tru dc header is 400 a set of v8 headers are the same price and you get 2 of them and that twice the matterial. So yes imports are over priced due to the demand. But also i payed 1500 for a civic and 3000 in a motor and i run the same as a 5.0 or 4.6 lightly moded (14.3). And i have a gas efficent daily driver. I love all cars import and domestic. I would love to have a classic chevy but they are like 7000.
