I just got my hands on this '96 contour... 2.0L, 5spd... and really have no idea what to expect with gas mileage. Have been getting high 20's and do mostly highway driving... shouldn't the mileage be higher? What would be the first things to check to correct a gas mileage problem?

Thanks,

I've got a 95 2.5L V6 and it runs about 27 mpg. Mostly thats in the city also. Not sure what you should expect on highway driving. V6's consume more gas than a 4-cyl. as a rule. But I guess high 20s sounds about right for that year of a car. I mean there are some cars out now that dont' even get that. Hope that helps.
