Ok,
An engine is an engine. They are air pumps, plain and simple.
You can build a RB25DET, just as well as a RB26DETT for the most part. The RB25 is a very well built engine, and there are good aftermarket parts for it, just like the RB26.
You see what I am getting at?
The GTR, goes beyond just the engine. So, what specific event are you wondering? 0-60, road race, 1/4, dyno numbers, etc?

Give us all your info.
You intend to keep this car as a daily driver? How fast do you want to go. Do you need AC? Can you weld? Do you do your own work? How much lag can you live with? Give us a little more than a couple of sentences.
What do you know about your car? And where are you going with it?

You have a pretty good list.
Need cams, and a tranny. You will smoke that tranny with that kind of power. That will suck up alot of that cash:wink:
Also you might want to get an oil cooler, if you are going to be running it hard.
If your friend is doing the work, he should know a lot about what you need.

Personally I would pull the engine out and re-build it before you wind up totally destroying it. Forged pistons, argo rods, arp rod bolts will sure up the bottom end. the factory pistons and rod bolts won't handle that sort of power for very long. Get some 650cc injectors, fuel pump such as a bosch 044, and fuel pressure regulator. Also have the head ported for better flow, trust or custom plenum, os giken A gear set and that is a good start to what you want to achieve.

Fastest SKyline in NZ is a 32GTR, Oz is a 33GTR.
For the $350 odd you were gonna waste on a BOV, why not get some more performance mods??? Or put the money towards bullet proofing the engine. Maybe a decent aftermarket ECU would be a good idea, possibly something with a boost controller in it, save money elsewhere......

Actually we have two R32 GTRs in the mid 8s here and Mario's R33 GTR is the fastest skyline in OZ but there are a host of rotars that are much quicker.

Why is everyone always talking about engine mods. the power is in the engine not on the street. the only contact with the street is a rubber in the shape of a wheel called a tyre...
no what i'm trying to explain is, everybody talks about more power but i have heard no-one talk about brakes, tyres and wheels...i don't want to be hit by someone which has to much power but a lack of stopping power... And power is needed to accelerate fast but with wheel spin no one ever really wins...
What i've heard is that the r33 has problems with the brakes, sometimes they explode...some serious shit i think...
This is not to get a good citizen score, but more of a reminder...

I see that you watch Top Gear. Explode, that is some funny shit. That show is a bunch of crap. There a bunch of well read upity guys, that have the ability to talk. No, the Skyline disks do not explode. The only thing that will explode are cross drilled brakes:)
Your veiw of cars is very typical of the British market. Not to say its bad, but it is different than the way the US sees cars a whole. Its just a different mind set.
Stock brakes are fine on the GTR. I see guys spending loads of cash for better brakes, but for what? The stock brake will stop a R33 GTR from 60mph in less than 113ft. You spend £1500 so you stop at 110ft, big deal.
Tires, Kumo KU15s best bang for the buck. Yes, you can go into actual racing tires as well. But what are we talking about here, street, or a race car? Tires are for the most part are big trade offs.
BOV are a waste of money, unless you have a monster for an engine.

Can you explain to me the US view of a car...? British market? eumh. no not really. more the technical market.

I can't agree on this. i got a car with great brakes. Stock brakes. there just fine. the kind of head against the window. If i compare them with uprated brakes of Brembo or AP. It makes not much difference in distance. The difference comes after braking 10 times. The brembo's still brake like hell. but my stock brakes fail to brake efficient. My car has only 10hp more then stock so i don't see i reason to change brakes. But if someone is gonna tune there car i strongly advise to tune the brakes first. on a circuit (or normal road) with a same budget the laptimes drop harder when braking is good then by increasing power.
Brakes are just a safety feature for yourself and others...

I totally agree with you if you never had wheel spin or over/understeer...
But then you just don't drive hard enough. Tyres are the only contact with the tarmac. and just putting a budget tyre on it is asking for problems.
BOV are a waste of money, unless you have a monster for an engine.
I really think a bov increases turbo-life. why should the manufactures install bov's on stock engines. See the new xc90. Saab 9-3/9-5 2.0t/2.3t or a volkswagen gti 1.8 turbo. And it decreases lag.
What is your argument on bov's and there waste of money...?

Brakes?
Yes, I see your point about the stopping 10 times. If that is the case, we are talking race car, or at least street car on a race circuit.
The stock Brembos are very good for the GTR. You can always change the pads for better heat transfer. When it comes to brakes size does matter.
All I am saying is, for the GTR they come with brakes that are more than adequate for some small circuit racing, with a change to a better pad. Of course, if you have the money, and are trying to build the GTR into an actual race car, and have the money. You might as well spend the cash, and get the best equipment available.

my opnion was based on 90% of the cars. most of the cars here are volkwagen golfs all with tuned engines and stock brakes.... and when i see howthose guys drive i really hope they don't see any other car's.
And a stock bov replacing by an aftermarket one is throwing away money.

"Can you explain to me the US view of a car...? British market? eumh. no not really. more the technical market."
If you go to a good old American Auto site, they go into great technical information, as well. That is what its all about. I just find that the tech information is more abundant at the American sites.
Take cam selection. Ramp rate, timing events, lobe sep, duration, lift, port velocity, cfms, timing, ect.
You talk to most GTR guys, all they can tell you is its a 272* at 9.1 lift.
I live for tech info. I have found good info at both sides of the pond, but IMHO the US sites give a little better detail info.

Of course BOV decrease lag, to a point. Biggest reason is to protect the turbo, pointing out the obvious.
