1. Not sure ... gotta be some kind of converitible, with Hemi, and 4 speed, maybe a 70 cuda...doubt it though.
2. Gotta be the LS6 at 450
3. Hemi option?

#1. Definitely the right thinking. It was a Hemi Convertible. Hint: There were 2 built. Same model and body style (including manual and automatic transmission), but two different years. And no, it was not a 'Cuda.
#2 is correct for the highest RATED horsepower in a dealer available engine. The LS-6 was rated at a whopping 450 bhp, the highest of any muscle car engine. Bonus points: what was the highest horsepower rating for an engine that was only available to select drivers (i.e. over the counter race engine). Hint: It wasn't the Race Hemi.
#3 - It was an engine option, but not the Hemi. The Hemi was around a $1,000 option, give or take a few bucks. This option was over 4 times that. And any one could order it from their local dealer.

#1 - Correct. There were only 2 Dodge Coronet R/T Hemi Convertibles built in 1967 and 1970.
#2 - Nope, not the ZL-1.
#3 - Correct. The ZL-1 engine was technically an option on 1969 Camaros and Corvettes. Cost, a mere $4,160 (compared to the base price of $3,040 for a Camaro). Despite the huge price tag, Chevy managed to sell 69 Camaros and 2 Corvettes with the ZL-1 engine in 1969 (note, Chevy actually built a 3rd ZL-1 Corvette, which is why it wasn't the answer for #1).

Actually yes, I was talking about the cammer. For those that don't know, it was a revolutionary engine from Ford, developed to combat the Hemi in NASCAR. It was not sold to the general public, but Ford did build (and install) about 50 examples which were sold to professional racers in a hope to get it qualified for NASCAR (back when all cars and engines had to be available to the general public to be used in NASCAR). NASCAR felt (correctly) that it was not available to the general public and thus outlawed it. This basically killed it. But the stats were impressive: 427 cubic inches, hemisperical heads, a SOHC design and was officially rated at 616 horsepower in single four barrel carb form and a whopping 657 horsepower with dual four barrel carbs. This engine was by far the highest rated and most powerful street legal engine of the muscle car era.

Had to research this one. Stands for the Oldsmobile Drag Racing Competition Engine, a race engine that debuted in 1983. Therefore, too late to be considered a muscle car engine (and not legal for on-street use anyway).

There is one problem with trying to figure out who had the most powerful engine due to the fact that Dodge, Chevy, and Ford constantly lied about horsepower numbers, for the Hemi was VERY underrated.Dodge still underrates some of their cars even up to this day. A great example is the SRT-4 Neon. It hink they did the same with pretty much all of the FWD Turbo cars. Did you now that in top fuel all the cars use a 426 Hemi bored out to 500ci? Also I must say that the Ford Cammer wasn't a reliable engine, that is also what got it canned.

True, many engines (especially race ready engines) were under-rated by the manufacturers. The race Hemi, the Chevy 427 L88, and the Ford Boss 302 were all under-rated by at least 100 bhp. And the new Dodge Neon SRT is way to fast for its 215 bhp rating. Hmmm...

#1 - Correct. There were only 2 Dodge Coronet R/T Hemi Convertibles built in 1967 and 1970.
There is some speculation there were more than 2 made for 1967. As for 1970, there are at least 3 known cars.
I can think of other musclecars that are as rare if not rarer. If you want to get really nitty gritty, I believe there were only 3 1964 Olds F85 442 4-doors built. This stat does not rely on engine, so that makes it rarer, IMHO.
Also, on a separate note, your website's definition page is quite horrendous. Where did you ever get the idea that a 'Cuda 340 is not a musclecar?

Actually, there were only 2 documented ZL1 Corvette's ever released for public sale and only 1 has been verified to still exist (the yellow one). It was sold by Hechler Chevrolet in Richmond Va. to a John Zagos in July of 1970. He traded in a 1967 Marboro Maroon 427 roadster and $5,000.00 to buy it and dropped a valve racing the first night he owned it. This car was restored by a neighbor of mine in the early 80's and is currently owned by Rogers Corvettes and valued at over $500K!!! The other ZL1 (the white one) has plenty of affidavitts attesting to it's authenticity but there are still many holes in this car's history.
GM did build 2 ZL1's for media and racers to test, but they were stripped of the engines and crushed. About 10 years ago a gentleman from St. Paul showed a purported "3rd ZL1" that looked like one of the media mule cars photographed in 1969. He was later proven a liar as the previous owner of the 350 converible he used to build a ZL1 ratted him out.

Q11: Why did GM get out of racing in 1963?
A11:
Image issues, legal liability, and a rash of deaths and serious injuries in pro-racing with GM cars...
Q12:It's possible but thats not the car I was thinking of. Think MOPAR.
Q11:I'm sure that's some of the reason but not the really big reason.
If you want answers I'd be happy to PM either of you with them.

The car was the 1967/1968 Dodge Dart and the motor was a Mopar big block.
In 1967, Mr. Norm of Grand Spaulding Dodge, developed the first 383 Dart that became the prototype for the factory 383 Dart GTS.
In 1968, Mr. Norm developed the first 440 Dart GSS that became the prototype for the factory M Code 440 Dart GTS.

No factory 440 6-pak car came with A/C. The aircleaner would have interferred with the a/c compressor.

I said it was a trick question. :naughty: There was a car with the MoPar 440 6-pak that came with A/C from the factory. 232 were produced from 1971 to 1973. A friend of mine was going to try to buy the bracketing to put A/C and a Six-Pak on his car, 1971 Challenger. There were a total of 6175 without a Six-Pak. These had either 440's or 383's in them. I give these numbers to show that, although rare, it's not just a one-off. My dream is to buy one and show up the Monster MoPar Weekend at Gateway International Raceway.

Hate to disagree with you, but there wasn't one. If you say there was, then name it.

1971 was the last year for the 440 6-Pak.

I've sent you a Private Message with the car. That way the group can keep on guessing. I will say this, you are correct as far as the MoPar factory goes. However, I did hear of a COPO Hemi going out with A/C for a Chrysler exec, so there may be something similar for the 6-Pak.

Where did you ever get the idea that a 'Cuda 340 is not a musclecar?
a 340 was a pretty weak engine to be considered a musclecar engine... 275 horses isn't much escpecially in those times. i think your thinking like alot of ppl that lloks alone make the muscle car... however the sites definition is rather confusing because it doesn't follow its weight to power ratio... your site says that the cuda 340 isn't a musclecar... then say the duster 340 is? then you say a wildcat isn't because it is too large... however you say a catalina, impala, GTX, and galaxies... and the galaxie is only a muscle car you say if it has a 390?! my car has a 430!!! what makes it different?! so on that i'm kind of with you about the definition being a little faulty.. but the 340... ehh it's not much

No offense to the MoPar crowd, but I think this is the coolest car ever to have one of their awesome engines. It is the true Gentleman's Express, leather interior, REAL wood, etc. They weigh 300-500 lbs (~4200) more than an E-body, but can still get up and go.

Also I must say that the Ford Cammer wasn't a reliable engine, that is also what got it canned.
The SOHC was very reliable. The problem was cost. The SOHC was the engine of choice for crazy power in the day whether it be river racing boats or drag racing a car at the track. Not everyone could afford such an expensive engine, and parts were never exactly what you could call plentiful. The Boss 429 had more reliability problems than did the SOHC 427.

3.THE 70 SUPERBIRD W/ THE 426 HEMI
As noted earlier, the answer to #3 was the ZL-1 engine option. It was technically an option on 1969 Camaros and Corvettes.

Q17 -
Buick GS?
That's correct. The Buick engine measured out at 401 cid. Of course, Buick just called it a "400" and even GM Management saw that it was a waste of money to re-engineer a new engine to shrink it by just 1 cid.
