Issues with my 97 GTP

I have a 97 GTP. Last year I brought it to a dealer to get the fuel pump resistor changed because the car would just die on me. It's been about a year since then and I am having trouble starting it sometimes now. It will turn over but won't start unless I keep turning it over. Any ideas on this one? Also I am looking at replacing the factory air box with a after-market option from Speedbuilt Fenderwell Intake Kit. This option moves the air filter to the fenderwell. Is this a good option? Can anyone share their experiences with this product? I live in MN, wondering if I move it to the fender if the weather in the winter will affect it? Also will that filter get more dirt and dust than normal? How often will i have to replace the air filter? If you have any other questions let me know, sorry for the lengthy post but I need some good info before I take the car to the dealer again.

When was the last time the fuel filter was changed?? Is the hard startign the only thing the car is doing or has it died on you??
Everyone say the fenderwell is the best spot for getting the coolest air possible. Not sure about running it in the winter, but you could always just run a open cone in the engine bay for the winter months.
Most CAI/FWI use a K&N filter, so no need to replace it just clean it with K&N's cleaner/recharger when it gets dirty.

Yes, it has died on me. As far as the fuel filter is concerned, I don't know when or if it has been replaced. Should I replace that right away to? Can I do that my self or should I take it to the dealer? Good idea about the winter months, one thing though, would I have to get another seperate mounting kit to have the filter inside in the winter? Thanks again for your input! Yes you can do the fuel filter yourself. Just undo the gas cap first to release the pressure. The filter is on the driver side near the frame. You never know how long that thing has been on there.
I'm sure there is a cheap and simple way to mount the filter for the winter months, sorry I cant help more. I use MSP's CAI and only thing of FWI I know is from the fellow GP club members cars and what I read on ClubGP.

Since it has died on me, do you think I should replcace the fuel pump resistor and the fuel filter? Keep in mind the dealer did replace the resistor about a year ago. Let me know what you think.

I have a FWI that I made my self. I went to Lowe's and bought 3" PVC, and 2 45degree angle pieces, connected the pvc to the factory intakehose, took the airbox out of the engin compartment, and ziptied the PCM to the chasis , ran the pvc through the triangle opening in the side, and put the cone filter in the fender. I have had no trouble with weather, and other people that I have talked to have not had trouble during winter time.
oh yah, I only have $40 in the whole system, including the $30 filter. it is cheap, and it works.

I would say do the fuel filter first, even if it exhibits the same problems atleast you've got a new filter on there. I thought I remembered hearing of a way to wire around the resistor that someone posted on ClubGP

FWI's are much cheaper than any CAI that I've heard of. I would just go to Intense's site and order their FWI tubing. Maybe 10 bucks cheaper than the even the FWI 00 GTP describes but is almost plug and play.

When looking under the hood and trying to envision what my K&N filter will look like. Currently the stock air box is still in place. I notice on the hose/tube connecting the airbox to the intake, that there are 2 oddly shaped parts that are connected to the tube. One is on the back right and the other is on the bottom side of the tube. What do these do and what do I do with them when I replace my air intake?

I have no Idea what they do, but they are not used with any aftermarket CAI/FWI. The only thing that is the same is the gromet for the Intake Air Temp Sensor.
This is the system I have and couldnt be happier. I know its expensive, but I ddint know any better, and this was one of my first mods. You might have to get the f- duct and coolant bottle from a 99+ GP as stated in the description. Or just to a fenderwell intake and I dont think there will be a need to relocate the coolant bottle.

Ok, I am sure that i am not the only one out there with the grand prix gt who is cruising along and the car just dies or even just sitting at an idle and it quites. i have changed the fuel pump. had the dealers look at it three times and of course it didn't die for them the first two when it did they said replace the fuel pump. on a hunch when it died this last time i checked the spark plugs for spark by pulling it and laying it on the motor mount to ground and recieved no spark. then i put a bag of ice on the coils and held it to the Ignition control module under the coils and after 10 minutes bam i got spark and the car started fine. I am looking into finding a control module to replace it but i am going to check all the sensors connected to the module first because it looks to be a $200 fix. if anyone else has found this to be an issue and has replaced the module and fixed the problem please contact me.
