Hi guys, plz help me on this, first question is can I put K20A2 stock cams on any B series engine? and if this can be done, how good are those cams compared to B16B's or B18C's spec R cams?

KsoA orC cams wont fit....stick to the B-seris ITR or CTR cams..i mean id got CTR cuz that stock motor is crankin 185 HP /1.6 litre, whereas ITR cams well its only 197/1.8 litre...but both are great ...and plus K20 in still new...so stick to the B-seris...hope that helpd...

Closest thing to what you said is the F20C in the S2000. But that's irrelevant in this discussion...carry on.

ok, just to clear up my mind on this, it means that any B,D,K and F series on honda engines are not compatible with each other when it comes to any internal engine parts. is that correct?

for some engines of different series the valve springs, valve retainers, and maybe some other valvetrain components can be interchangeable. I know that for the K20A and A2 the valve springs are interchangeable with those for the F20C. Also, the valve retainers that skunk2 makes for the B-series and K-series have the same part numbers. But dont assume that this is true for many things, be sure. Some pistons can interchange, ive heard that some people in japan are using the F20C pistons in the K20A engines. This would work as long as the bores are very close, the wrist pins have the same diameter (or alter the rods), and there is enough head clearance. Besides that, there isnt much else that you would actually want to change over.

haha..ur callin me a noob...so your saying that theres no such thing as a K20c...okayokay...

"K20C is not developed exclusively for Integra Type R. It is a derivative of the mass production K20A which started serving Stream MPV recently. No matter K20A or K20C, they differ from the old B18 by three main improvements: 1) increasing displacement from 1797 to 1998c.c.; 2) using roller rockers to reduce friction at valvetrain; 3) in addition to the existing 2-stage, cam-changing VTEC, they gain a cam-phasing variable valve timing (VTC) mechanism at intake camshaft like many manufacturers do. Honda calls this combination of VTEC and VTC as i-VTEC, where i stands for intelligent (think of iMac or iPaq, or VVT-i ?). See it this way, the conventional VTC varies the intake valve timing continuously and smoothly throughout the whole rev range, so it flattens torque curve, which used to be the biggest weakness of VTEC. The VTEC, on the other hand, switch from "slow-timing, low-lift" cam lobes to "fast-timing, high-lift" cam lobes at around 6,000 rpm, optimizing ultimate power. "

no there isnt! :bloated: The rsx-S has the K20A2! Why would honda/acura come out with a C model already? wouldnt they have a K20B first? Indicating the second variation of the engine that has the same displacement? I dont know too much about exactly how the codes work, but i know for sure that the RSX type S has a K20A2 engine...

Okay, I did research, this is the best I can find on the whole K20A2 vs K20C thing going on in here. We all know the production RSX-Type-S we can go to the dealer today and buy has an engine called a K20A2. But as for how the hell this guy thinks the K20C came in a RSX type-S, here's what I found. He was partically right, but also very incorrect. Read on. I explain this all at the end. As you'll see, early articles right around release call them engine a K20C, the articles after release (and the engine code on the current RSX-Type-s) call it a K20A2.

Sport Compact Car, in the JUNE 2002 issue, had an article that was about a "RSX Supertest" on pages 82-120. It was 7 RSX Type S's modified by various companies useing there prodcuts for the new car. The Companies were Greddy, TODA, DC Sports, FAL, Comptech, Progress Group, and Acura. Sport Compact Car listed the engine in this issue as the "K20C" on all 7 RSX Type S cars.

However....
Honda Tuning April/May 2002 Tech Procedure Part 1 (about the "new K-series")page 82-89. On page 85, they list the RSX Type S, and it's engine, as a K20A2. It is listed this way throughout the whole article.

Honda Tuning August/September 2002
pages 38-39. They talk about driving "Type-R's at Tochigi." On page 38, they say the Civic type-r features a "modified version of the K20A2 found in the RSX-Type-S. They say the engine features "mostly the same improvements as the Civic Type-R.

Sport Compact Car December 2002
"Honda Hoedown," pages 94-113. It is about Hasport "home building" a civic type-r using a RSX type S engine, and it takiing on then a bone stock RSX and Si. On page 100, they list the 2002 Acura RSX as having a k20A2 engine. The Hasport Si with a swapped in RSX type-S motor is listed as a K20A2 motor also. Again, it's a RSX motor in there.

Sport Compact Car December 2002Hybrid How-To: Hybrid #9: 2002 Civic Si chassis, K20A2 RSX-Type-S Engine. Pages 80-90

Sport Compact Car November 2002
TougeTeg, pages 84-90. About the Tein 2002 Honda Integra Type-R in Japan (RSX is still called Honda Integra in Japan). It is listed as having a K20A engine. They refer to it as, again as other article have, the "type-r version of the K20A."

Import Racer January 2003. APC's Turbo'd JDM Honda Civic Type-R. Pages 52-56. Real JDM type-R bought there for 24K (US) and flew here for 5K. The engine on the Type-R is again, called a K20A. The "type-r version."

Honda Tuning February 2003
Hi Maintenance Honda's HartBeat. Pages 84-88. It is about the Honda of America's Race team. It was started in 1990 by 3 Honda Employee's, and is not a divsion of Honda Racing. Now the team is 23 people strong. They have raced in the IMSA Firehawk series, the North American Super Touring series, and the Grand American Cup Series (for it's 4th straight year in this one now). Their current Race car is a 2002 Acura RSX Type-S. It is listed as a Honda K20A2 engine (prepared to Grand-Am Cup specs, or 220 HP, similar to the integra type-r)

The Best I can garner from all this, being that the earlier articles published about the RSX Type-S before and right around/after the release called the engine a K20C, and all the articles published After the release called it a K20A2 or K20A, is that pre-production and right up until release, Honda/Acura called the Type-S motor a K20C (probably because the GSR was a B18C). For some reason, they decided to change the engine name to K20A2 for the production Type-S, even giving the Type-R motor (in Japan) a K20A name.
This seems to make sense to me, as it's all I an garner from this. Still, I think the facts point to this thoery, since all the early articles call the type-s engine a K20C and the ones after release call it the now named K20A2. So it would seem that Honda/Acura changed the name from K20C to K20A2 for production of the engine and car. That Kids article was, again, right before/right after the RSX/Integra DC5 release. So it would fit into this theory. That being said, there was never a K20C in production, the Type-S features a K20A2 engine as we all know. The K20C was simply the K20A2's name early on and right up until the RSX type-S release.
If anyone can find any more information or such on this, feel free to post it.

dont worry, i used to think it was K20C also... it was actually an article that was released before the final RSX was put into production. It was going over the concept, and for some reason they said it would have a K20C... ill see if i can find that article

Check my post on the last page, I talked about that and what most likely occured. One of those articles was...

Yea, I give the issue in my first post on this thread. I am sure thats the one that confused them. I talked all about it in my post. Posted 8-05-03 @5:44am.

For the rest, just read the post on Page 1 of the thread. I explain it all in the post, if nickzed20 had bothered reading my post, he would have seen that article, which I am sure is the one he is looking for. Why people don't read sometimes is beyond me
