Bum Jetta Alarm Problem

Alarm problems...Sometimes when I'm driving the alarm on my Jetta sets itself to "on" (blinking light). It doesn't sound off until I open the door, but the only way I can shut it off is by turning the key in the trunk lock. It doesn't work on any other locks.
I've tried several times to figure out what triggers it. I thought it was connected to opening/closing the windows, but it sometimes does it with no specific instigator. This is a very annoying and embarrassing problem. Every time it happen, if someone is around they ask "Trying to steal your own car?" I ususally reply, "This isn't my car."
Does anyone have any ideas what is causing this to happen? any quick fix solutions for this? Do I need to take it into a dealer???

I had a simular problem with mine. If you are able, check all your grounding wires. Broken ones can have wierd effects.

the exact thing is happening to my car at this point, the alarm engages while i'm driving, i have to roll down the window and use my key in the door to disingage it (the keychain pieces are long broken...)
oh, my right front turn signal alternates working on and off and the rear left window stopped working permanently at about the same time.
did you find a solution that works?

If you're still under warranty and don't have any extensive mods, take your car to the dealer. I'd much rather have them sort out an electrical problem than taking the time to do it my self.

Had the same problem with my Jetta and it was some Frayed wires running into the Rear Driver side door. Cost me about $200, but they re-did the wiring in that door and the alarm no longer sets itself. I'd just check for spliced wires in each of your door armpits.

Did you happen to have a fuse blow recently? This may seem common sense to everyone else on this board, but I had alarm problems for 3 months and just found out today that when my fuse blew & was replaced (approximately 3 months ago!) it reset my alarm to factory settings-which meant it would automatically lock the doors & alarm itself. I was able to find the specs online & re-programmed the car succesfully.
It's just an idea for any of those out there who have a similar situation and didn't connect it with a blown fuse 1st.

I have a 97 Jetta and I had problems with the alarm going off also. My drivers side window would go up and down by itself and the passenger side mirror would not adjust. After trying alot of different things I pulled back the rubber boot inside the drivers side door that covers the wiring harnes for the door and found 2 broken wires. They looked like they were cut but the rubber book wasn't. I spliced these wires and everything started working fine.
