What are the downsides to putting a SR20DET in your 240SX? I know a couple of the downsides but I wanna know more. So what are they?

Well for one there's that god awful feeling of knowing you gained an extra 50hp, there's also the problem of gaining the potential to make your car a V8 killer, that psssttttt! sound everytime you shift, and of course knowing you have the powerplant behind the silvia under your hood. Yes'sir, I'll stay away from that sr20det anyday!

there is a common problem that i always see during the winter where the car has a problem with not wanting to start. i can't say what exactly goes wrong. but i know that it happens to alot of poeple with the swaps, that ran fine when its warm but has problems in the winter. luckily non of my friends got that problem. but thats one of the reasons why i didn't choose an SR. becuase if something does go wrong with it. only performance shops who does swaps will know whats wrong. most mom and pops shops will not have a clue really because all the wiring is not original, and it will take quit a while with a test light or a volt meter to find the main wires.

maybe it has to do with people using cheap batteries.
u'd be amazed at how much a high rated battery can change the performance of a car in certain situations.
not performance as like in horsepower (maybe it does wif a ignition system, not sure), but as in how well it operates, as compared to another fully charged oem/near oem battery.
i hear optimas are good.

More trouble passing emissions tests, because JDM engines don't have EGR...

i also heard that if you add a aftermarket bov the sr may stall cause of the losed boost pressure..

So, Mr. "Anti-ricer" what are these huge problems you speak of? Or are you just going to keep them secret so you can laugh at the "ricers" for getting a "rice" engine?

one downside is no A/C. this doesnt hold true on all of them though....it can work on any flavor of the swap (s13 sr into s14, s14 sr into s14 etc), i dont have the moola right now to get custom lines made from the compressor to my firewall....so i do without it.

well, i wouldnt take the AC thing as a downside.. i mean, atleast it CAN be fixed up to work.. as you said, u just need a little more money than just swap money.
