Over the weekend, my 13 year old little brother bought his first car, an 1988 CRX. It was sitting in the backyard of some guy that lives in our neiborhood for about a month. My little brother would always say to me that it would be cool to get that CRX every time we drive by it. One day he hopped on his Dyno and pedaled his self up to the owners door, and asked if he would sell it. The guy said yeah for $150. My little brother was like, how bout $100. The guy said sure, and he got hiself a rex. Hes got 3 years to work on in, wich should be just enough time to fix it up. It needs LOTS of work.
Just thought that I would share this meautal(sp) bonding of a little boy and his CRX. Here are some pics of it.

does the car start up?

It has no drivers side glass window, so the rain got to the interior.

Yup, sure does. Drove it home (like 6 houses down the road). :iceslolan
Has a oil leaking problem though.

No, suprizingly, but they did have some rips in the lumbar.
We took them out... with about a can and a half of that rust unlocking stuff. In the process of getting the mad rusty brackets off the floor, we managed to rip up about 1 inch square pice of the floor with the drivers side seat bracket.

From the looks and sound of it, that rex is deep with rot.
My advice would be to inspect that frame a million times. Id really hate for your brother to get hurt in that car. If anything, you definitly got $100 in parts there.
Why do the tails look like they were in a fire?

Vehicles that are rotted like that usually aren't worth the money you would get from scrapping it. I mean, sure if you can pull some alright parts off there, but you know how much work and money it would cost to get the body good? Like, if there's rain and shit going inside the car (for how long?) then the floor could be rusty.
I dunno.. I just don't think restoring a car thats super rusty is worth the money beacuse the rust is just gonna keep comming back. Sure, we probably all have some (mine is getting repaced RIGHT NOW) but its okay when you can take car of it when its small.. But when you start welding floors in and shit.. :bloated:
13 years old? Can you even work to earn money when you're that young?

Yes, it does have a little rust here and there, but the entire car is not shot. The last couple of days, me and a couple of my friends went to some local junkyards and found about 6-8 fairly good condition CRX's. About the rust situation, we are going to cut the sections out on the CRX's that are in the junkyards, and weld the new peices in the place of the old section (after we cut it out first ofcourse). My dad has some friends of his that do bodywork and painting, so it shouldn't be too bad
to fix.
Why do the tails look like they were in a fire?
The entire car was spray painted. The previous owners nephew spray painted it with a crap load of colors (like the valve cover).
My advice would be to inspect that frame a million times. Id really hate for your brother to get hurt in that car.
Frame wise, it is in good shape. Not any nasty rusting areas, just some surface rust here and there.
I think it can be fixed up, it is just going to take time. My bro has got 3 years to fix it up ( the main reason he got a car now). It has just got litle things that need to be repaired.
He is getting a job in a couple of months (when he turns 14) at Publix being a bag boy, and he "says" that he will save up every penny to put in to his car.
to fix.

see thats good that hes getting a car now so that he can save up just for that car and not have to worry about insurance or anything of that sort.
