A few years ago I read an article of a guy who kept his early 90's Prelude for 500,000 miles. All he replaced were the wear-items (brake pads, spark plugs etc.) and kept up on scheduled maintenances... all on his stock engine. Honda caught wind of this and gave him a brand new Prelude type SH for free.

There's the Subaru High Mileage Club which documents high mileage subarus that have gone over 100,000 miles with no major repairs (That is nothing like engine rebuilds, new tranmissions, etc.) And I know that they have some cars listed at over 300,000 miles - but nobody has yet to reach 400,000.
And VW beetle used to hold the world record (but had gone through multiple engines obtaining this feat) at over a million miles I believe. I think a Volvo also passed the million mile mark. And if I'm not mistaken the latest record holder is a Plymouth Fury.

There is a guy that brings his car into where I work for regular maintenance, it's a 1989 Buick Park Avenue w/ a 3800 V6 and It has 289,000 miles on it. We only usually see him if he needs an oil change or brakes and other odds and ends.

That's amazing, one million miles... Semi's used to transport cross-country shipments usually average around that and they're beefed up diesels.

There has been a few articles on a Volvo that has over 1,000,000 miles and is still running fine.

Saw a Volvo like the one pictured with over 600,000 Miles on it at a carshow a few weeks ago and its still in good condition, no rust what-so-ever and I guess the guy is like 2 in Canada for highest mileage and 4th or 5th in the world ranking.

my friend owner a 77 Hillman Hunter for 23 years and that car made 2 complete rounds of the clock. Everything original, except for the radiatord, the brakes and the dashboard (a tree falled in front of the car).

I know I know, a lot of old cars can get more...

but it was an open question, donīt ya?

My Dad has always used Mercedes vans for his business. He had one of them a few years ago with 660,000 miles on the clock! I'm not sure if that was on it's original engine, but it was one of the most reliable vans we've ever had ...

LOL! If you want to kill one of those engines, you have to try very hard.

On topic: A customer came into the shop where I work with an early 90's GMC S10 - 2.8L. I looked at the odo and it showed 614,338kms

I was talking to the trucks owner at the service desk, and he told me all he has ever done is basic maintence (oil changes, filters, plugs, etc.)

All he needed that day, was a new cap+ rotor.

FYI: 614,338kms is approx 381,732 miles.

Ironically enough I was reading a Top Gear article about the Volvo P1800 as I saw this thread (June 2001 issue) and it is amazing- the car has never had any major work! Volvo's are known for lasting forever- so it comes as no suprise:bigthumb:

familys old ford bronco had 220,000 on it when we sold it ... know the guy we sold it to also and its still runnin good.

170K? I've got that much on my toyota(original engine, I'm the second owner), plan on keeping it till it gets to 200K then pulling the 63K Yugo out of retirement to use as my everyday car. (the '69 Subaru by the way has an amazingly low 20,400 miles on it, not bad after three decades)

My dad has a 1987 Ford F150 with 487,700 miles on it, orig engine, and that thing has been worked hard. The engine is still going strong, but the rest of it is being held together by bungee cords and duct tape (I live in maine, that's normal) and my husbands 79 bronco is somewhere over 300,000... I'll have to check to get an exact figure

My friend's Nissan Sentra has 329,000 miles on it. Still runs great.

My buddy Bryan's Sentra had well over 400k on it, he drove between here in VA to Pittsburgh to see his dad about once or twice a month. Those things run.

My ex-Sentra is over 200k now. Was 186k when I totaled it.
I know of a 93 G20 with 260k, and it's turboed..
and a 1999 G with 177,000....yes on a 99.

Once on Letterman I saw a guy roll over 1,000,000 on an old Civic. He was perturbed b/c Honda wouldn't buy the car back from him (for publicity or whatever) and he thought they should.

A couple years ago there was a guy with a million mile car here in Ohio for the Honda Open House. Funny thing.. it was his 2nd million mile car. The first one they traded him a brand new accord for. He came back years later with another 1,000,000 car they bought back too. He timed it so he could hit 1,000,000 in front of the factory... I believe he was a mailman or something.

The gents name is Irv Gordon and he drives a 60s era Volvo P1800 (1966?). I last saw it almost 4 years ago in Boston when it had less than 2 million miles on it. It's in great shape yet at the same time it was obvious that the guy practically lives in the thing (I recall a CB radio in it I think.)

I read an article about this guy too and I thought it was 2 million also. He was the only owner of the car I believe.

I'm surprised we haven't gotten any Toyota people reaching ungodly amounts of miles.

The highest mileage I've seen in person are my two co-worker's late 80's preludes, both hit around 250-260k miles. My friend's 90 Corolla is at 250k, his interior lighting isn't working at all but his headlights still work and so does his engine, good enough for him.

My bro plans to get over 400k in his Lexus SC400, dunno if that's goin to work out. I plan to get 300k mi in my KA24 engine, dunno if that's goin to work out either... If it blows I'm gettin either an RB25DET or SR20!!
