for a while now my car has been making this annoying squeeling noise and i have no idea what it is...i was thinking it might be a loose belt but the belts feel fine. it doesnt really affect performance, its just annoying and it only happens at low rpms like when idling or in 1st gear. just thought you guys might have a clue?

does anyone know or is this just a dumb question? my brother thinks that the alternator might be going bad but i dont always trust his judgement.

My roommate had that problem with his Talon, a lot of time it was just a glaze on the belts, causing them not to get good traction. He got some kind of spray to put on them and it helped a little.

do you know the name of the spray or what kind it was?

you could also spray your idler pulley with some wd-40 and see if that helps, and you can spray that on the belts also, i have done that before and it helps.... try those things...

my car will squeel like a sonovabitch if I go threw a puddle and get some water on the belt....but that's probably somewhat normal.

yeah its just a slipping belt. Which one you'll have to discover for yourself, but if it does it when the car is idling, i'd say chances are it's the alternator belt. All those fixes above should work - take your pick.

When was the last time you had your belts changed by the way?

well i bought the car in mid april from a dealer and i havent changed any belts or anything. the only thing i've done is had a normal oil change. everything seemed to be running fine. i'll try to spray the belts. would putting a little lubricating oil on it be about the same or is that a bad idea.

My 94 civic does the same aswell, but it only started doing it after i cleaned the engine up ( it needed it), it squeeks during idles sometimes but usually goes away after i rev it a few times. my cousin said i should use something called wax chaulk. Just want to confirm it b4, i go out and spend some $$$. and also my power steering pulley is wobbles a lil bit, any where i can get a new one without having to shell out a $150. Thanx in advance
