so about 2-3 weeks ago i was at the top of a 9-10 step stair case and i was holding my cat when myu dog decides to knock me down them backwords, so i take the tumble and break the fall with my a$$, since im holding the cat i cant use my arms, and i land on my neck at the bottom, now my tailbone is just killing me, and i know everyone says "you shoulda let go of the cat" ....but my cat is getting old and i didnt want to land on her, oh and to make things funnier my dog comes to the bottom of the stairs after and jumps on me and starts licking my face, but now my tailbone is realy hurting, mainly when i get up out of the chair or off the floor, is this normal?

ive broken my tailbone a couple times. The way i did it was falling riding down the steps on a foton when i was 6 and the foton got caught. (gimme a break i was 6) well that was by far the worst, but ive reinjured it by falling on a basketball court, taking a charge, falling on concreat, and snowboarding. The first time i couldent even move without being in pain ( but i was 6) the last times i couldent sit, get up lay down or motions like that wihthout some pain.. maybe you broke your tailbone.. give it tiem and it will heal if not then go to the doc

:(
something similar happened to my mom awhile ago, except she wasn't holding the cat. her back was hurting for quite awhile, and we wern't sure what from.
Is it your muscles that hurt, or your spine? i don't think bruising lasts that long, so it is probably your spine. maybe you should get an xray to see if anything is out of place.
hope it feels better

Xrays and Chiropractic. ;) I know that people don't always believe in Chiropractors, but it's truly AMAZING what they can do without any internal medicine.

Something similar happened to me when I fell down some stairs in my house. I was standing at the top of the stairs just after waking up, and my foot slipped on the top step, and I came straight down on my ass and then slid the rest of the way down. Hurt so bad for almost 2 weeks. Sitting down and standing up, and pretty much everything else hurt so bad. Probably just bruised your cocyx (tailbone).

I am glad to hear that you value the cat enough to protect it on a fall - good for you
My wife had a tailbone injury about a decade ago. It used to hurt her after just sitting, but it got better on its own after a few months. She did see a couple doctors but they really didn't have anything they could do for her that wouldn't be invasive. It got better over time. You're probably bruised (if its not broken) and that takes time to heal.

I love chairopractors. Did wonders in keeping me on the hockey field for 3,4, sometimes 7 games a week. :)

I fell down the stairs bout 5 weeks ago, damn chucky heeled shoes, anyway, I had a HUGE bruise on my thigh and smaller ones on my collerbone and ear. I also twisted my ankle and wacked the shit out of it on the stair (metal frame filled with concrete), I don't know what happened to it, but it still hurts to this day.
I hope your tailbone starts to feel better soon, that would suck too!
