I'm getting ready to put a Dohc ZC in my 91 hatch and I need you guys to help me out some. I searched honda-tech archives and still can't find what clutch the ZC tranny uses, I know its the 88-89 alxes and I bought an a6 6.5lb flywheel that I hope will fit. Also I'm looking into some headers and intake and was wondering if brand X was just as good as brand Y. I bought a pulley set from AEM (underdrive, alternator and the other one..) and I'm looking into some Crower reground cams. I'm pretty sure that most b16a cam gears fit. I want my car to smoke Mustang GTs and GSRs and what not but I'm not sure what else I can do to make more power besides I/H/E, lightened pulleys, flywheel, cams, gears, port/polish. I want to go NA but maybe a 50 shot when its all said and done. Gimme some input ladies....

if your getting a ZC you better be getting the ZC cams which are better then stock to start with, so start with those ...

a 50 shot?! wow brave man.

and lastly its not the car that wins the race there buddy its the driver ...

Yeah dood, a stock ZC should be able to handle a 50 shot. Just don't go ape shit.

Intake and header are for the a6. I have chikara and an aem on mine.

Dont port, its a waste of time....all that does is fuck up the flow characteristics.

I dont think anyone makes pulleys for the zc, at least in this country.

The cam gears have to be machined to fit the zc cams.

And I would be very careful about any sort of power adder on the zc. I plan on going turbo on mine, but with low comp and only 7psi.

The Zc is a difficult motor to mod, only because of the lack of available parts here in america.

Your zc should be able to handle gsr's all day without any mods. Most mullets cant drive, so Im sure you'll take out a few gt rustangs along the way too.

i wasnt kiding about the 50 shot either, i dont think i would trust a ZC engine with that much of a power add on. unless you plan on a rebuild before and soon after its use. even though i would go ZC over B series any day ... that still doesnt help the fact that alot of these engines sit for who knows how long before you get em. that kinda idle time wears on an engine.

just something to keep in mind, stock ZC rods will handle about 200hp before they bust, so dont get too carried away without upgrading internals

i have a 91 crx dx with a zc motor in it and a 5 speed but nitrous just doesn't sound like a good idea with a zc unless its built

having just recieved a ZC in my 89 CRX a little while ago, i would have to agree. i got it because i had to, but i don't know that it is that much of an improvement. i mean, yes it is more powerful. but honestly, i would rather have the bigger powerband of the D16. either that or i wish i could have saved more and gotten a B16 or something. it wasn't worth the $$$ to be moved out of the Stock class in auto-x and into SM2. i'm gonna get my ass kicked.

I am not possitive, but i think you should be able to use any d-series clutch with the engine

Wow, lot of mixed opinons about this setup. I'm getting the engine because I have to, it's a good engine for the coinage. My stock a6 burns a quart of oil every two days, heh and I have limited $$. As for the pulleys, I think the a6 pulleys fit, I bought a crank pulley for the a6 and fitted to my friends ZC and it seemed to fit, so I'm guessing all the other pulleys will fit to. If i knew anything about engines I'd have enough to do an LS swap, but 800 is going into installation. I'd love to put the damned thing in myself but don't have the proper tools necessary. Anyone around the Canton/kennesaw area in GA wanna do a swap for cheaper lemme know, i can offer what little help I can.

WTF is that supposed to mean??? Take your head out of your ass before you post. The man asked for opinion, and I gave it. So hows about you try and stay on topic....thanks

And your little equation doesnt alwasy ring true there proffessor. Honda motors are incredibly efficient. There is absolutely no reason to port something thats already running at an optimum level. If you want to increase efficiency, you do it with proper fuel management and other things that compliment the engine, not change it.

As far as Zc's I do agree on having some maintenence items serviced before using the motor, ie timing belt, head gasket etc.... I was fortunate to get one straight from japan, so there was no worry about it being abused here in the states. And I found the swap to be quite impressive, especially one that costs $3000 less than the b16.

My reason for getting a zc was because I wanted to build an ef3. This negates the possibility of having a b motor.

The Zc is a very reliable, and very verile powerplant. It just doesnt have the aftermarket support in this country, as opposed to the b16. I love my zc, and would choose it over a b motor. No one ever said building a car should be easy, if it was....everyone would do it.

someone really needs to start an IMPORTANT zc thread, or engine swap in general thread.
