I have a 66 Stang with a strait six and wana research getting a new engine for it. Anyone got any suggestions? IO want to be at least pusahing 500 hp by time it is all said and done. I was thinking of a 347 stroker i seen in this mag for 500 hp and only 5k for the complete engine

a 4.6 is modular and fuel injected, I wanna stay away from both of those.

Why? The Supercharged 4.6 DOHC (03 cobra engine) is forged internally and can handle lots of power.

he doesn't want a 4.6 because he wants something carbbed and classic that will fit into the 66 with ease. yo, the 347 strockers are off the chain - there has been some disscusion around here on the 351 and it's widly agreed that they are pokey from the factory. you could go bigger, but since it's for the street - i'd put my money on the 347.

The whole thing with the 347 is i dunno if can handle some forced induction or some nitrous. I wanna put at least a 100 shot of nos through it or a big enough supercharger to make it come out to 700+ hp. or maybe both. I wanna toast rice and f bodys :)

geeze, 700 hp - are you sure you want that for the street?
I bet the 347 can handle a hundred shot, but the 351 would be infinitly better. you could go up the ladder in size for days - are you on a budget, or have any fule economy concerns?

Why not just leave the straight 6 in there? Don't but into that garbage that a 6 can't beat an 8, because they can beat 'em at the track quite often. And this is everyone after the V8 gets beat by an I6>> :iceslolan

shut up about the stright 6, no cares...
and go for the more power the better but your not gonna get 700hp from a small block that easy... could do what i'm doing, usign a small block now and bulding a big block on the side, like my 500ci+ 1000hp plus engine.. perfect for the street

700 hp for the street is ludicrous. There is no way your'e going to be able to drive it comfortably on the street. I would say that 500 horsepower is probly as fast as you'll want to make it, for street uses. This can be easily achieved with either the 302 or the 347. It is very possible to get 500 hp out of a 347 with only 5k. I would get a 302 however, and boost that shit till it screams. Nice, high revs. Forged internals, fuel pump, intake manifold, carb, and 12 lbs of boost should have you in the 500 hp neighborhood. All these plus basics like headers and exhaust would cost under 5k and have a shitload of power.

My money would be on a FI 377, that is boosted.
Fairly high compression, 9.5:1, boost about 12lbs, and slight shot of N2O for its cooling, a fairly large I/C, and a fairly med range cam say 225/230 525/530 113 in that ballpark.
That is where I am going:bigthumb:

If your trying to save money I would go with the 302. There are a million parts for it and there pretty cheap. It also seems pretty easy to work on even I can work on one. My buddy from work and I fixed the valve cover gasket on the drivers side yesterday and it seemed pretty easy.

I"m more worried about gas and benging my frame then anything, I want enough power to pull 11-12 1/4 times. How much hp will i need for that?

BigDanTheMan,
Nice '71 Cuda' with the billboard strip. Did you know the guy that made the billboard strip kit, was pissed because he wanted to work on other aspects of the car, so he did that for a joke, and the Execs liked it:bigthumb:

With those times you would need a cage and 5-point belts at any track so at that point put as much hp as you want cause the cage will stop uni-body twisting.

yo - i didn't know that, the rapid transit system had some wack paint jobs that seemed to work. god i love the 68-71 era of american muscle. That picture isn't the one i had, but mine was just like that. Numbers matched and everything, 1 of 17. That was before the cudas became popular with collectors. a 71 hemi convertible just went for a cool mill at an auction earlier this month. There are only 7 of those made, and i think 5 left standing.
