I'm looking into getting some eyelids for my car. Are there ones that are already painted? If i were to buy the ones that "need to be painted" what would i have to process wise? Thanks.

never seen any that were pre painted?
as for painted them,
take some 400 grit sand paper and sand them good, but not to hard. then take some rubbing alcohol (isoproful) and clean them real good. then take some primer if you feel like it and primer them up. then take the paint and spray maybe 5 light coats on them. then spray maybe 3 clear coats on after. and off course make sure they are completely dry between each step.
these are the steps i used when i painted mine.

there's ones that are pre-painted? where? i've never seen them, and yes i tried ebay...
are there different kinds? cause the ones i see are all made out of the same stuff, plastic. Obviously, they don't have to be expensive material though.

I believe it's spelled "gay" stupid. That was your 400th post. Congratulations on making it count....
I don't want to spend my money on something that makes my car go faster right now. I did that last week. Esp, where do you get the ones that are pre-painted? In a day or so an auction ends on ones that i might be bidding on so...

No, THIS is my 400th post. They are gay, but for the sake of the post you can take them to a dealership or something and they'll paint/clearcoat them to match your exact car color for like $60. That's the route I would take because I don't settle for below-average work.

Body shops aren't always the right way if you know what you're doing. ;) Save $55 and I'll help you out with it.
Hey, over 2 years later since I Kryloned my sideskirts, and people STILL think they are the OEM painted ones. Below average? Not if it can fool the very people that sell them. :loser: :thefinger

If you can do a really good job then go for it. How did you paint them, sand/primer/paint/clearcoat? That's like $20.

Wet sand with 220 grit, washed, alcoholed, then applied paint. 6 coats of paint, and 4 of clear coat. No chips or flakes of any kind. It's all about prepe work, that's what'll make or break even the crappiest paint used.

I agree. Where can you buy the correct color to match your factory paint though? Mine has those little rainbow specs mixed in, and I don't know of any Krylon colors which come with anything like that.

You'd never guess ghetto tagger Krylon would be a good choice. However, Krylon #1301 "Bright Silver" matches Honda "Vogue Silver Metallic" almost exactly! :bigthumb: Look at my front lip and my sideskirts specifically in the pic below for proof of this.

Looks great in the pic..
I have black though, and even tiny little flaws are multiplied 10 fold so it would probably be a little rough..

yeah i'm working with black here too. With black anything shows up and getting a match with krylon might be a little difficult as well...
and the picture isn't decieving. Seen the front lip and skirts in person. You'd never be able to tell. IMO, i'd paint the moldings, but that's just me. And i can't remember the reason why you told me you weren't going to. And before i start rambling on, where was that picture taken? All i can see are older cars and that VW next to yours.
