i was wondering if a 95 eclipse gs had a speed regulator on it where it would only let it go so fast

all 2g eclipse will have a limiter set at 130 besides the GSX. the GSX does not have one at all.

Last time I saw this question asked, someone died after finding out. I doubt your tires on the GS are even rated that fast.

RockinWRX

Yeah 130 is plenty fast. And I don't even think the GS tires are H-rated...:eek7:

i believe the GSX is gear limited to 180 mph but in stock form can only get up to about 160, i personnally have only had mine up to 110. havn't had it on the highway yet.

yeah i got z rated tires too and i had it to 127 and i just order a hahnracecraft turbo so im gonna wanna go faster

Zero8985

The gs can hit the 130mph limit, though it isn't recommended. I have w-rated tires (168 mph limit) and my dumbass acheived the speed. Tell ya what, you wanna go faster than 130, then you might as well do write your will out right now or if you feel lucky enough to live, call a mechanic to prepare for your engine, cause pulling that shit will probable call for a rebuild or a replacement.

EDIT: After reading your post above mine, if you really feel that confident, than you might as well have your license cut in half AND hands out ready to cuff as well, cause that's way more than enough for wreckless driving.

If a gsx can go 160mph could a gst go like 165 without the limiter? Thats not bad for only having 210 hp

do it, don't do it, die doing it,or don't. thats up to you. just make sure you have Z rated tires that are not bald and have GOOD tread left on them.if you get a blow out at that speed you Will die or wish you had at a best case senario. N E Way have fun.

I thought it was 140 mph on the GSX's. At least the 2G's. My 1G had no limiter. I managed to hit 165 with a Corvette tagging along , I pegged the speedo racing him , he told me my top speed afterwards. And I had Firehawk tires so I don't recommend using anything less than Z-rated. Awesome tires , btw , expensive , but sticky as hell .... I got sub 1.50 60' times on a mildly modded car , and totally awesome in the corners. I drove them in the winter too , and they didn't do too bad traction-wise.

Ask somebody that knows for sure , like a 2G guy. I'm not familiar at all with the 2G's....sorry

I've hit 142mph in my GS no lie, that was with i/h/e. It was scary as hell cuz I only had stock tires OMG! But DAMN did it feel good to go that fast, quite exhilarating!

Its already been proven by reading the FAQ's that what you are saying is impossible . Either your ECU was previously modified , or your tire/wheel size is different , or your VSS (vehicle speed sensor) is non-functional. Or you were possibly going down an 8% grade in neutral. :iceslolan

twally
07-23-2003, 02:55 PM
Then my ECU must have been previously modified, because i had stock wheels/tires and I know what I saw on my speedomter  I recall a "slight" downgrade, but not 8%.

Trav

RockinWRX
07-23-2003, 03:02 PM
Or the speed sensor is malfunctioning . The speed sensor is not required for the speedometer to work properly. It tells the ECU how fast the car is going , and is really the only way for the ECU to know when to activate the speed limiter. Most VSS malfunctions throw a CE light , ussually , but you may have gotten lucky. Congratulations , you have the ability to kill yourself on those stock tires.......:bigthumb:

Who knows, maybe I did get lucky, maybe something with my car is not working properly. I did though, make a mistake going that fast, out of pure ignorance, I didn't realize that I didn't have the tires to do that, It was 2 years ago when I first got my car and was invincible! I know a lot better now, so no need for the sarcastic remarks about my foolish choice. Thank You!

A GS may be a lot of things....but invincible is the last word I would use to describe driving one. If driving a lowly GS made you feel invincible , imagine driving a GSX . Actually , had you driven a GSX with that attitude , we wouldn't be having this conversation right now..... I drove my first truely FAST car when I was 25 . By that time I already knew better.

And the only thing scarier than speeding up to speeds over 130, is slowing down...once youve hit the top, you just want to stop completly...i was with my friend in his 97 Integra GSR, and we went 140 (or just about)...only word(s) that can be said are...damn...

I've been to 165+ in my '92 Eclipse ( RIP ) , 145 in my old IS300 , and banged the speedo stopper in my WRX. When you actually drive a car thats built to handle speed , its more like........meh. Speed is not scary , stupid speed is.

I wasn't stating that my not-so-great GS was invincible, it was a "sarcastic" statement aiming at my state of mind at the time, being young and all. All I had driven to that point was a 92 Laser (92hp) automatic, so driving my 5spd GS was pretty fun for me especially after I put my basic bolt-ons on my car.

I suppose it would be , yes. Try driving something , anything with over 250 Hp. Its a whole nother sensation altogether. :jump3:

I'm selling my car and buying a 5G Lude so I can beef up a h22a with some boost :D I made a mistake buying my GS, I should have spent the xtra $ and picked up a GSX.....none of this Chrysler engine bull. But then again, I was going to sell whatever I bought and buy a Lude shortly thereafter so in all retrospect, I should have bought a beater for a year or two and had a big chunk of change in my account to mod a Lude right away!

If ya like , and I wish you luck , but you've got a lot of work ahead of you. Any car can be made to be fast , for sure , but making an NT car into a T car , and then fast besides , is another thing altogether. I would suggest you research the entire process before you start on it. I prefer the instant gratification way myself , so I would START with a turbo car. You'd spend as much for a 5G Prelude as you would for a 1G GSX with some minor mods. Do yourself a favor and get a '92 . Best of all the 1G's. :bigthumb:

My friends has a '96 GS and it didn't feel like it had a limiter set on it. I was with him when he got his up to 145 and felt like it could still go more, but we were running outta road. Stock rims, stock tires, the only diff he did was cut off the air filter box as if it were his homemade air intake.
