CD Player on a 1999 Silverado

I have a problem with my CD player. Sometimes it will play CD's, (but not for that long), then it will eject the CD. When I reload the CD back into the player it stays in for about 5 seconds then ERROR flashes and the CD spits back out. Do any of you know what the problem could be?

I would try cleaning the CD player.
